Already seeing in the comments - some newer players criticising the changes, and some veteran players praising it. A lot of players will mourn the loss of freedom on the battlefield.
I'm prepared to give it a go. I started playing the franchise with BF2, so not such a shock to the system for me. I just hope that the player base doesn't decline any more - I'm finding it hard to find games, as it is.
One could argue the player base is split between, BF2 days, Bad company series, BF3/4, Battlefield 1 and V plus now Battlefield 2042. All of these games have a lot in common but also cater to different styles of play it's not split the player base it's just a big player base with a lot of different preferred ways of playing their way of what Battlefield is.

unfortunately for those of us who prefer the way we have been playing for the last year+, our preferred way of playing (freedom of loadouts) will be destroyed when the game we purchased is fundamentally changed. others can still go back and play the game they like the way they like. those of us who liked how we played 2042 won't have access to our game anymore. that's pretty crappy.

Honestly from reading the forums I don't think the player base can get anymore split. I do believe that the game lacks order and will see what the changes bring. Until then I will keep playing and see.
- SCUBASTEVE1203 years agoSeasoned Ace@EA_Atic This is true, I like the way you put it. I use to be all BF3 and BF4 the bf3 on console died down and I had 1000+ hours in BF4, so I moved to BF1 and BF5 (mainly BF1) but 2042 sits on its own (doesn't feel quite like a proper battlefield game)
- Psubond3 years agoLegend@SCUBASTEVE120 difference is you can still play those games. bf2042 as we know it is being erased and those who liked it can't go back and play it
- SCUBASTEVE1203 years agoSeasoned Ace@Psubond True but all past games had classes plus this game is severely lacking. I think this may improve the experience. Although rather than class work they could've went a different route like work on the games theme/ back story and added more actual content such as weapons and maps. We really need more maps. 1 per season just doesn't cut it
