I would love DICE to do a 1 week experiment. Turn off/disable crossplay for a week. Lets see what people experience and what feedback they would give. . Other than: there are less players in the game now…i know.
More players would come to play later if the game is more fair/responsive. .

All of the feedback would be imbelished to support personal agendas based on what they think the game should be. The same as it is right now because the truth is that we all no matter the platform connect to EA servers to play Battlefielld 2042.
There is no special privileges given to any side. Xbox Live and Playstation Network does nothing in an EA game. It is so disappointing that we are probably going to lose crossplay in the next game because so many people want to keep this nonsense going.
It is fascinating that people are more upset about this than not having clans in the game almost two years after release.

I just played the 128 player version today. It was horrible. Death from everywhere in am instant. If it’s not the crossplay, I don’t know what it is. Something is not right 100% !!!
Also: if crossplay stays, forums will be full of m&k advantage/aim assist threads. Do you honestly think crossplay could be implemented in a game where split seconds count?
A playstation player is connected to the PS network THEN to the EA servers.
A PC player might be connected to EA servers directly.
Right there, there are 2 different paths, one of the with an extra step. It must be hard/impossible to sync up everything in a game where split seconds count. Especially on 128 player modes.
All i know that BF is not the same since crossplay is implemented.
I might be wrong and i would admit my mistake if someone explains me what else is the difference between the 128 game/last gen version.
BF is my favourite franchise. I would love the gameplay to be as it was in the last 20 years - 2 years ago@JOGAGATYA So is a PC player that is connected to Steam first and then to EA servers not connected directly too?
You die from everywhere in 128 player games because enemies are shooting at you from everywhere on large maps where they can easily be places that you are not looking. It happens to me often. - JOGAGATYA2 years agoSeasoned Ace@Skill4Reel Good point about steam. All i know is that when i die i only experience the last 2-3 bullets. No time to react. Totally different on the last gen version. The 64 player version is better than the 128 player version. It is like the game can not handle 128 players well. I don’t know what it is but most of the time there is no joy playing the 128 player version. Just frustration.
Playability list:
1 last gen version
2 64 player version
3 128 player version is the worst - Luke88gw2 years agoNew Veteran
Are you sure guys that console players when play BF2042 have to connect to PS/XB servers and then to EA servers? I think in this case PS/XB servers are just for achievements and it doesnt impact connection against PC.
Before BF2042 almost nobody wanted crossplay consoles vs PC. Impossible to balance. In COD its "balanced" in the way where controllers are OP so even PC players use controllers. Aim assist in BF2042 is nothing in compare to COD series. Actually its probably the weakest aim assist in the BF series.

I have 2042 on all platforms. Ping is identical. There is no indication that console servers are taking extra hops or a different routing.

As AngrySquid says, it's just a myth that game server packets travel through Xbox and PlayStation network.
Console players are directly connected to the Amazon game servers just like PC players.
The only data traveling through Xbox and PlayStation networks is authentication data that says, "Yup this person has a Xbox Live subscription and is allowed to connect to the game server".
I think most of the crossplay lag comes from the fact that most console players use wifi which causes ping time fluctuation and out-of-order network packets. Battle(non)Sense has made many YouTube videos demonstrating how this causes bundled bullets and insta-kills.
I also think the 45Hz tick rate is causing major desync issues.
- Col_Larsen2 years agoNew Ace@JOGAGATYA :-) you are absolutely correct. Play a game with crossplay off and then on - night and day difference. And yes it is exactly as you state - you have console world and pc world. PC connects directly to BF servers and consoles have to go through their infrastrucure first before hitting Dice servers. Also reason why you need to pay fee to Microsoft to play online - how would they control that if you had direct access ? So your network to Xbox world - then from here to Dice / EA world. Gives latency on BF server. How do server cope with that huge diff. in ping and latency ? As it has always been - lag compensation - we put on some delay on the low pingers and you see this - die behind cover - empty full mag into player and he takes 50 % damage.
Next problem is the VPN users. What happens if Australia player connects to vpn in Europe and from that one to game server ? Ip would be from vnp in Europe but tcp package would travel from Australia.
No idea how that would be on server and players - but my guess is it would be nasty !
No way forward is pc only and console only and then also ping limits on servers ! - 2 years ago

Then charged the player a fee to remove that barrier.
There is no special online "infrastructure" that has to be passed through that downgrades connection to EA. From the effects of lag compensation that creates a speedy TTK for some while others are bullet sponges. To rubberbanding and also people claiming to be shot around corners. All of these things were happening in previous Battlefield games where there was no craossplay.
In older games it was possible to find a server that was close to your region and always play there to ensure that your PING would always be low. BF2042 does not have that option.
