@SCUBASTEVE120You have brought up many valid points about 2042 and BFs past.
I am a 55 year old PC gamer that fell in love with the BF franchise with 1942. Played every release since.
I did not play or purchase 2042 at release. I bought the game about 10 days ago when it went on sale out of curiosity. Overall, the gameplay is fine but the maps are lacking overall.
BF was, at one time, a team oriented game and that was a large part of BF experience. The class system rewarded coordianted teamwork. Then throw in some vehicles. And then play on large maps. That was Battlefield.
Specialist? Seasons? Honestly, WTF? There is a game out there that already did that! When I want to play CoD MW then I will load up CoD. I am always in favor of a franchise that continues to innovate but not one that duplicates. They have moved away from what made BF in the first place.
Instead of reducing the player class structure over the years, why did they not increase them? Squad sizes use to be 6 but now 4? Why? They gutted this system that many of us relished.
From the actions of the people currently at DICE, they do not care what BF was and have ni idea how to bring that forward in light of the current competition in the FPS genre.
One aspect about 2042 that has the most potential for drawing a large PC player base is actually the Portal. If DICE puts the time and resources into this offering I think they will be successful. Hopefull they will add more of the older maps and more options for server set up. Man I need me some Vietnam on the Portal too!
Innovation, thats what DICE was good at many years ago. While the purists hated 2142 I thought it was brilliant at the time. If you recall, the Titans were so bugged in the beginning they caused serious server lag and had to be removed from the game until re-worked. Motion mines, walkers, air-burst rockets, rail guns, taking the Titan shields down first with the ground rockets then the attack itself, freaking cool. Drop pods and you could kill people with them...oh the memories. Such innovation.
With 2042 we got Specialists, just like CoD and they wonder why the game failed at launch?
When you copy another franchise model you have then lost what made you Battlefield in the first place. Its not a hard concept DICE.
- SCUBASTEVE1202 years agoSeasoned Ace@BuddaSD30 😔 sounds like we feel about the same it's truly sad. I never got to play 2142, bit after hearing a brief description of some of it's innovations, it makes me want to go play it instead of 2042. Just the things that made bf3 special versus games of the time made me absolutely fall in love with the franchise (plus the absolute destruction in bad company 2 multiplayer). Bf4 was great too. I had mixed feelings on bf1 then came back a few years ago and loved it. I got into bf5 with the Pacific update and was like 🤩 what a game I melted then they ended support ....... FOR THIS 🤬
