Current BF2042 Content Pacing, rant and the Future

With the release of Season 3, the game now is more playable state as a Battlefield game and is more fun.
Majority of the map has now been reworked for better gameplay and with the upcoming specialist/class rework, it is now looking good for BF2042 future.

BUT
We've now past 1 year of the game release and at the third season of the game which means we've reached 75% threshold of 'guaranteed' update/content drop.

It's literally taken a year before this game feels like a Battlefield and the content drop for the season so far has been 'moderate' at best in my opinion.

Base Game Weapons : 3 Pistol, 4 SMG, 4 AR, 2 LMG, 3 DMR, 3 Sniper, 3 Utility

So far, we've received:

Season 1 : 1 DMR, 1 Utility Rifle,
Season 2 : 1 LMG, 1 AR ,1 Pistol

Season 3 : 1 Utility, 1 Shotgun, 1 Pistol
And we've only received 1 maps per season (and 1 specialist which tbh, not important, should've stayed with class system)
So at best, with season 4 and season 5 (if season 5 content is as similar as previous), we will get addition 4~6 new weapons.

2nd Year of Content is not confirmed so far.

For reference, BF1 season 1 introduce 6 New Maps,

Also, remember, we have no new factions so far. Why?maybe because introducing new faction literally does not matter since everyone is the same specialist and they cannot introduce more than 5 new weapons for the factions.

So, base game 22 Weapons+14 Weapons..about 36 Weapons in total. While Modern warfare 2 launch with 51 Weapons

This is hugely lacking and slow in terms of content drop. Not to mention the starting content is just lacking.

Not to mention the lack of gadgets. We've now only have 1 Anti Tank Rocket and 1 Anti Air Rocket gadget.
BF4 has 4 Anti Tank and 2 Anti Air rocket gadget.
While moving BF3 Vault weapons to the main game is good, adding more content to the game, it feels lazy in a way.
The weapon is not designed for 2042 system. Therefore, there are a lack of attachment for the plus system and by adding vault weapons,

BF2042 lost it's identity. I mean, the developer try so hard creating fictional weapon for 2042 but now, it feels out of place. They should've just used current weapon instead of creating fictional weapon.
Next, remember when they said that the story of 2042 will be told within the multiplayer experience?Where is that?We no longer has any story on what's happening on the 2042 universe.

BF2042 specialist system is the worse of it all. Who decide on this?is it someone from DICE or does EA enforce this ?

Yes,the specialist rework is coming. After 1 year and from my view as player, i don't see why it took them 1 year to implement this changes.

However, the gadget will still be locked to that specialist, and some of the specialist gadget is literally broken.
Irish using APS+Shield camping with a tank. Now multiply that by 3. I've played a lot of games of breakthrough where the tank will just camp at the back with up to 4 APS around them.
and they're at spawn. so you can't rush them.

DICE created such a masterpiece and should've learnt so much from their previous games. BF1 operation mode can be used to tell more on the story of 2042 But they didn't.

Multiple times,
DICE learned from BF4 and created BF1 which is good. but a lot of game engine optimization implemented in BF4 is not in BF1 but they implemented it slowly.
Then BFV came which is quite bad. A lot of lesson learned and game engine optimization implemented in BF1 is not in this game. The content is more lacking than BF1. Then they ended the support early to 'focus' on the next game they said and they also said they've learned from BFV a lot and will do better for the next game.

Then, this disastrous game came.Improvement made in BFV is not in this game, major function for multiplayer shooter is not in the game. The broken hit registration, poor map design, broken game and more.

Someone said that Battlefield had always bad launch. Which may be true, but let's be honest. Do any company want that image?Image of not being able to delivery working product on release date and will fix it down the line (usually 1 year+).

Now, for the future of Battlefield,
as i said, we've now reached 75% of guaranteed content. DICE most probably starting or had already started working on the next Battlefield. It is safe to say BF2042 is almost done and DICE is only steering the sinking ship to the right location.
DICE have broken too many trust of the players. With Battlefront 2, Battlefield V Launch and End of Support and now this which is the worst of them all
(Why does it look like DICE in a downward trend since 2016?). The question is, how can DICE earn our trust again?

In my opinion, they need to be more transparent. Create a live session with the executive from DICE and maybe EA.

First they need to acknowledge how bad they messed up BF2042.
Next, we need details on the development of BF2042. Details such as From starting the development until launch, how much time is actually taken to develop the content as we've heard rumors indication the developers only had 18 Month to develop the game. How long does it taken to adjust the game engine etc and what decision is made during that time as well as confirmation/denial of either BF2042 is actually not developed as main BF2042 title but a Battle Royale game. We need the clear why the game decide to stray from the Battlefield style. Why specialist system is introduced. No BS answer. If it's for skin money then just say so. And presented to us what lesson has they learnt from BF2042 and what will they do for the next game.

For the next games, we want the communication to be clear starting on Day 1 of trailer reveal.
No more blackout period as BF2042. After trailer reveals, DICE went silent.

Include your Battlefield Insider/Gamer to test the game and give constructive feedback. I have no idea and whose idea not to include them to playtest BF2042.
Upon reveal of trailer, we want details and guarantee of content.
Details such as how many maps, how many weapons, gadget, factions, class. Do not be vague.
For BF1, we had quite a lot of playtest. We've had events such as Stonemountain vs Neebs.
Do it again. But this time, be more clear. Indicate for the event, how many percentage is shown. Such as Maybe 10% of the weapons, 20% of gadget is shown during the event.

And declare on the reveal or before release, how many season of content are we expecting and for each season, how many weapons, maps are we expecting.

Remember, BF1 season pass promises 16 New Maps on t

With BF2042 disaster, I think this is not too much to ask considering how much they messed up.

i need this level of clarity for the next entry before i even consider buying the game.

What are your opinion on BF2042 Content pacing and overall content so far?

And what are your suggestion for DICE to do to gain our trust?
DICE team and EA team, please give your feedback as well. What are your personal opinion on  this.

  • @ikmal_fikri I think you don't realize that BF4/1 was developed by completely different people. Yes, it was under "Dice", but many simply left Dice, especially after BF5.

As for content, this is what "Free" content looks like my guy. I've said it time and time again, as did many others who understood the principles behind "Premium" model. Paid content = more content. Free content = bare minimum to advertise "New maps, vehicles, weapons etc FREE FOR EVERYONE!"

I view specialists as a failed attempt to come up with something new and provide yet another platform to sell skins. Others say that according to leaks BF2042 was originally developed as a hero shoter. I let you decide which one that is.

Also according to some devs, they had to completely re-design Frostbite engine to accommodate the changes they've planed. Frostbite is notorious for being extremely difficult to work on. Now imagine you have a bunch of new devs with little to no experience tasked with re-designing this engine for a new game. Add to that pressure from EA on those new and inexperienced devs and you get 2042 launch disaster.

Even after all that, they've stuck with the game. They keep updating it, making it better, returning old and needed features as we request, re-work old maps, add new content (Yes, slowly, but still they keep working on it).
They even announced more content past season 4 which honestly nobody expected. Even I was skeptical about seeing more after season 4, but here we are.

After all this, there has major re-structure within Dice itself. New and experienced people have been put in charge. Some people recently came back (Welcome back Sirland), and there is new hope for the next game.

But even now I have a lot of fun playing BF2042. Most bugs have been fixed, maps reworked, and weapons balanced. Now they will rework specialists and hopefully, this will balance vehicle gameplay too.

Agree on almost all the points you guys are making, after a rough start it IS getting better even though, as you say, it is painful SLOW to get there.

Premium model in my opinion was/is the only way to go, the quality and quantity of that system speaks for itself. Live service just is a way to monetize and deliver incomplete games and spend much of the "live service" fixing the game or adding stuff in that should have been in there to begin with. So ya, give me the premium model any day of the week over that.

The Specialist system was a radical departure from what long-time BF fans/players were expecting and turned off a lot of those players to this game. Agree or disagree, the numbers speak for themselves and are irrefutable. Reintroducing them into classes at this point probably isn't going to bring any of those players back, I hope it does, but I think ultimately, it's just going to aggravate the current players rather than attract new players. Again, I hope I am wrong but only time is going to tell.

Battlefield 2042 is still missing a lot of CRUCIAL and VITAL game features like server browser, persistent servers, squad management, all-chat just to name a few but they do seem to be listening and implementing some of the stuff the customers have been asking for, so there's hope on that front.

I am cautiously optimistic about some of the recent move's EA/Dice has been making lately with the addition of Marcus Lehto, Vince Zampella as well as bringing back David Sirland, it really gives me a little hope, if not for BF2042 then for the next BF title anyway.

Good post, summarises perfectly where we are at currently and where we need to get to.

Like you I am also cautiously optimistic that going forward we should be moving in the right direction  under this new leadership.

Only time will tell how much they are prepared to implement in BF2042.
