Current little bird and hovercraft balancing makes breakthrough nearly unplayabl

Playing infantry in breakthrough right now is almost impossible. I’m level 39 currently and I’m either immediately getting ran over by a hovercraft at spawn or shot up by a little bird that kills instantly on a single strife. I’ve completely given up on that mode until those two are balanced. Also on maps like discarded invading forces have a huge sniping advantage by being placed out of attacking bounds on large cranes and other objects.

  • @ctibbs05 64 players if even 3 of them run AA missiles littlebirds won't be as effective.

Hovercraft are a nuisance though. But waiting to see what effect anti-tank mines have on them.

IRL wasn't hovercraft supposed to be immune to mines??

@JediMastaWynLuckily they are not, and as more players unlock the AT mines, the hoovers will chill off. Also it is extremely satisfying to put a bullet through the windscreen and collect a collateral killing both driver and gunner.
I have been playing almost only breakthrough for the past week or so, and i do agree that the nightbirds can be annoying, but as long as there are a few dedicated AA players, they can get them off your back pretty quickly.

Many pilots are complaining now that they are no longer untouchable, which personally warms my heart. I have spent enough time as gunner/spotter in helis though and a skilled pilot who knows the moves can spend a long time alive and doing good damage.

It is just fun to see those entitled pilots who are used to farm XP finally get some taste of balance.

  • With proper flying, infantry AA can not hurt nightbird.

The idea is not to hover over the enemy but do the fast flyby (spelling?).

Unless there is dedicated skilled helli player on the enemy side to dogfight me, I can survive for 15 minutes or longer killing over 50 infantry.

  • @ctibbs05Don't give up! After many many games playing on Orbital, never seeing anyone getting past the second sector, we actually won as attacker. After the second, the rest was a breeze, literally. Immense satisfaction!

@JediMastaWyn I think it was a bit of a mistake to have AT Mines unlocking at a relatively high rank.

That said, as more unlock them I suspect Hovercraft won't have such a free reign.

A nerf, whilst possibly still needed, should have waited for a bit longer.

@Trokey66 You can drive one by yourself and switch seats when you’re ready to shoot. It’s near impossible to shoot the driver when it’s moving and even sitting still the windows are so small. Plus they’re hard to hit a lot of times because something is off with the physics. Or shots don’t register, but that’s a big issue with everything in game currently.

The hovercrafts role is supposed to be a way to transport a few people relatively safely. Right now it dominates infantry.

@RaginSamThat still doesn't negate the fact that if AT Mines we're available sooner and more people could therefore use them, Hovercraft may have been curtailed somewhat.

With a nerf now, as people unlock and use mines, Hovercraft may become useless.

    Pebbles in a pond.
