Since I have only played the beta, I am a little cautious of commenting on maps. But BF was built as a vehicle game on big maps. And as I see it, BF returns to this concept with BF2042.
So why is this not a true BF game in terms of mapdesign. Is it because the current player base want small / medium size maps with 10 sec between each flag.
Like I said, I'm not taking a stand. I'm just curious.
Both have large open expanses of 'nothing'!
Although there is no real direct comparison, the same with Battle of the Bulge. (I also noticed that the church is the same as BFV and the windmill is from BF1!).
Not saying these maps are bad in and of themselves but in terms of cover, not that much different from BF2042 maps.
It just seems that the 'community' want large maps but don't want to travel far with loads of detail that isn't cluttered and has loads of cover that can be destroyed.
- 4 years ago@Trokey66 I'm surprised at how torn the community is, it's really embarrassing.
People claim it's not Battlefield but forgot where the series started and what the maps were like.- 4 years ago
@CordlezToaster
This so call " community " as never been homogenous .... At all every singlle entry have peoples loving or hating it and its always been like this .. Now its just there is DRAMA loving folks trying to ice the drama cakes ..
But in reality those who saw BF2 as gold standard Hated bad company and BF3 those who saw bad company as gold standard hated BF3 , Those who saw BF3 as gold standard hated on BF4 and so on and on and on- cornybbq24 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Stew360 my good friend stew… pls take a look at this screenshot.
i think its very clear that there is a like-minded community and i think its also very clear that the vast majority thinks 2042 is trash…i know this screenshot is only on metacritic but i can show you the same trend on steam and google user reviews. Its not just a small part of people that think this way… it really is 80% of the community.
if you deny this then you are one hardheaded cookie 😂

That was what I meant. BF2042 maps seems very similar to maps from before BF3 imo.
So saying they are not Battlefield is perhaps more because most have started with BF3. Even my favorite map from BF3 "Bander desert" looks like this: large and open.- Trokey664 years agoSeasoned Ace@SirBobdk I only started with the first Bad Company but there have deffo been more than a few maps since that game that could be considered to have wide open spaces with a lack of cover.

But from BF3 we started to see more of small / medium size maps which were primarily infantry oriented. BF changed direction and began appealing to more. Not that I think it got any worse.
In my opinion, it's hard to say what a true BF is. It probably depends on where you come from.
- dirtytamato4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Trokey66 Ya and el Alamein was in a natural dessert so it makes sense. Also bf1 siani dessert is huge and open, but again it's in the dessert. Hour glass is in a city, so where's all the buildings and close quarters combat like it should be in a city?
- Anarchiesx4 years agoRising Veteran@dirtytamato uhh... the CQ combat is in the city you absolute *. There's a whole sector of the map for it. Crying about the rest of the map being a desert is just stupid. It's a city in the desert. Wild concept, I know. There are also tons of sand dunes providing cover between all of the sectors so that gunfire is mostly limited to each area, and so people aren't being sniped from across the map.

@dirtytamatoit is a city that has been mostly swallowed by the desert. I know this may be a difficult concept for you to accept but left unchecked, that is what happens with sand, it moves.....
- dirtytamato4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Trokey66 Yes but it is still a city, so where is the dense amount of buildings? I'm fine with the sand swallowing the city, but where is the city???? There like 6 buildings

We need more infantry based maps

I had high hopes for this game because of all the animation vids they had for it during build up. They showed a heavy infantry aspect in those videos and more details and destruction. It was also supposed to go back to the roots of battlefield. How can you advertise that you're going to the roots while putting in specialists.
I agree with the person that called this a hero shooter now. Specialists shouldn't have had names, they should have been replacements for the engineer, medic, assault, and recon instead. They didn't need to be basically named mercenaries. It makes fighting sometimes confusing because you're attacking player models that look exactly like your team. That's a dumb decision.Maps are very few, and not very good. Graphics are pretty low and there's nearly no map details. Feels like some quickly made korean mmo where all the houses are empty. There's nothing unique. There's nothing really to destroy, and the ones that do are very clunky and unrealistic compared to the last few BF games. There's also A LOT of empty space. It makes you feel like this is barely an infantry shooter anymore. Vehicles dominate everything, and the Heli's are just insane with how much empty ground there is. For the guy that mentioned we shouldn't be running across empty fields....most of these maps you really have no choice in the matter. They are some of the largest BF maps to date, but 80% of it is just empty, fully exposed land. The maps need more cover for ground troops to move around in, and most of the vehicles need a lot of rework.
The weapons I'm not going to really complain too much about, mainly because I can't imagine them not adding more, however, the synergy around them need to be adjusted. Everyone complains that no one is restocking or throwing out medpacks....could that possibly be because they made these massive maps dominated by vehicles, and infantry need to carry anti vehicle weapons on them to cross the map? That weapon that takes over the slot for your medbag or ammo? Dumb decision considering that you could use both of those in previous BF games. Again, if we're going back to our roots, why are you forcing something on us that is completely different than our norm? They were so excited to push out the specialists that no one asked for and was never in past BF games (roots again), that they hijacked one of the slots that would normally be for either your weapon tool or your med/ammo slot instead, then wonder why no one is healing or resupplying, lol.
Game is just a giant contradiction to what most of us were under the impression we were getting from this game, and they deserve this backlash.
- dirtytamato4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@Kyosji Yup I agree and am glad to see Dice getting ripped a new one by the community
- AdAstraViking4 years agoNew Vanguard@Trokey66 mostly accurate from what I've seen people do want maps like that, I kinda agree seeing as we seem to have gone backwards in regardsto destroyable terrain and structures. That said I think the complaint of the maps the main complaint is actually the result of low TTK gunplay.
Contrary to popular belief the TTK is still very very faster though it never feels like it to a lot of people. The lack of cover just makes the low TTK very annoying generally. More so in conquest than breakthrough.- Trokey664 years agoSeasoned Ace
@xeNizKingI agree, the lethality of weapons through lack of spread and no suppression mechanic for example means that if you are seen, you are pretty much dead.
This is before we even consider bullet damage.
Under these circumstances, any cover would have to be very close together to negate this which would be a totally unrealistic expectation on most maps whilst maintaining their size.Pebbles in a pond!
