Truth be told, this might be the first time I've ever felt embarrassed to be associated with a video game. I thought about that long and hard before posting this reply too, but its fact.
I looked up a game called squad or squads on steam this AM once I saw the santa skin and the config file bugs and the mouse problems, ill probably check it out
@M0istGamer I've went back to BFV just much better detail, destruction, art direction and all the little things. When the free to play game WW3 launches in March I may move to that, it seems to have all those 'little' things and more that BF has lost, plus great gameplay its what 2042 should have been. Even simple things like the crescendo music near the end of matches are gone, terrible hit sounds etc so much to try and even write.

I think you are asking, "What happened to the realistic tone of the game"
Personally I have a much bigger problem with the specialist's faces and voicelines before and after every match. The game forces me to listen to those over and over.
They are meant to be funny, but they aren't. Neither are they original or in any way connected to the background story: Climate & economy crisis, chaos, war. The soundtrack of BF 2042 is distressing and gives me chills; Trailers had a very dark and serious tone. I might actually write a separate post about this topic, because it makes me sad.

So they just lost their homes and basically everything and out of desparation they decide to join a group of mercenaries called No-Pats to fight in a global war. What would they say? Oh, i got it:
