- BFB-Praetorian2 years agoSeasoned Veteran@doubleome I noticed doing the weekly tasks that Paik highlights through smoke.
With so many people running Recon maybe it's just more noticeable? I care to check what they are but never Paik

@doubleomeIf you, or any of your teammates get hacked, it will highlight your location pretty much anywhere on the map. I say pretty much anywhere because I don't know if there's a cap on the distance or not.
If a good player even sees a glimpse of you before the smoke is thrown, or if you step outside of it and then go back into cover. They'll spam that spot and hope to get some hit markers. I do it all the time on Redacted. You know where people like to peek from, where people tend to gather and so on.
When the smoke starts to dissipate, you can see through it at certain angles as well. It feels a little random. Sometimes firing through it seems like it clears it out just a tiny bit too. It's weird. It's not the hack, something just feels different it's not a coincidence that it's happening more recently
It's aimed fire as well, not just random spraying that gets me time and time again
Any graphics settings or tweaks that can effect it? (which should not be possible in a multiplayer shooter)

I seem to recall hearing that smoke is rendered client side vs. server side, so different people may see different things, especially given the trash net code.

@doubleomeI believe smoke is a complicated matter. I believe that there is not just smoke, but - like with fire - there is friendly smoke and enemy smoke. And what can be seen or not might depend on who deployed the smoke.
So BF2042 has many mechanics, that make shooting targets in smoke not as hard as you might expect.
1. when you hit something, you get a hit indicator - when you get a hit indicator shoot again
2. You can locate the red glow sticks on the enemies, even when they are concealed by smoke. (I had the discussion with a friend, who said, he doesn't know what I am talking about, and just realized, that maybe I see the slight glow, because I changed the team colors to bold red and bold blue)
3. It is much easier to spot a moving shadow in smoke than a static target.
I changed the team colors directly at launch, so I didn't remembered until now, that they are not the default. I also saw a streamer recently that when with a citrus yellow and a dark purple for team colors, maybe that makes spotting in smoke even easier.
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@doubleome I haven’t noticed anything new with smoke. Paik will highlight in smoke for sure. I also tend to just fire a full mag anytime I see smoke deployed, it’s amazing how many kills or at least hits I get on players I cannot see. I just assume people are running in the smoke as cover rather than hiding or crouching and often I am correct. I’m just playing the odds. I think there is also an edge to the smoke that is different depending on perspective. Somebody right at the edge can be a visible shadow, while if you’re that person you only see smoke and think you’re concealed.
@doubleome
I never noticed any changes. It could just be EA and Dice blowing smoke up, everyone 🍑Another thing was smoke always black in this game?
Looks like it's mainly onsole players constantly aim assisting targets in smoke? Maybe it's just setup way too sensitive

Aim assist does not work through smoke, not even the light transparent smoke. Just a wisp of smoke in the area will shut down AA.
