@fixateliveDon't think it's a good idea. Battlefield games are mostly played on PC, so if they turn off crossplay by default, you won't find a match, in fact, you already can't find a match without crossplay on consoles. Even if you do, you'll play against bots.

@Jozso987 What country do you play in? I asked you this before in the thread you created but you never replied. I've been jumping between country's out of interest trying from their point of view and seeing how busy they are as part of a theory I had. I'm in the UK and have had pretty much no problems finding a full game on PS5 with crossplay off. Thanks

This was my concern when I first heard about crossplay and hoped it would be 'Off' by default.
I did try crossplay during the 10 hour EA trial and had I not known about it or realised it could be turn off, I would NOT have got the game.
Your hypothesis about console gamers (and possibly some PC players) banging out because of it is quite plausible if not quantifiable.
- 4 years ago@Jozso987 I would respectfully disagree, I believe there is always a larger console player base than PC when it comes to BF games.

@Jozso987 How is this true? PC players had dedicated servers in all other previous BF titles, console players had dedicated servers in all other previous BF titles. It was easy and quick (unless you were queued in a popular server) to find and get into a near full server. I am in Australia and there was not a whole lot servers for Oceania region, but could always find and enter a server quickly and easi
The reason there is no scoreboard in 2042 is because EA/Dice dont want people to think negatively by seeing a bad k/d and being at the bottom of the scoreboard, therefore not playing the game again. This theory should also apply to crossplay. With all the new xmas console players getting wrecked by sweaty PC players they wont want to play the game again.
Crossplay needs to be disabled by default for both PC and console with the ability to turn it on if you wish to do so. The addition of a server browser should be a no brainer really.
These two things (along with a lack of weapons and maps plus other bugs etc) are whats killing this game. 2042 has so much potential to be better than BF3 and BF4, but sadly its not and never will be.
- 4 years ago@Jozso987 It looks like currently disabling crossplay only works with playstation, on xbox when you disable crossplay the game does not start, no bots. It would have been great if the game was filled with bots, because that would have at least get servers going and people can join replacing bots. This "feature" is broken currently on xbox.
- A_al_K_pacino_A4 years agoSeasoned Veteran@fixatelive I found games okay last night with crossplay off. I'd say 9/10 matchmaking works fine for me. Series S in the UK.
- 4 years ago@Jozso987 You can't even get into a game with bots with crossplay off. I think DICE disabled this feature silently. It's their way of forcing crossplay with the PC crowd.

@larry_54235 What country do you play in Larry? I’ve asked the other guy a few times but he never says. Also what platform. Thanks.
- 4 years ago@David6479 I'm in EU on Series X and can't find any game with crossplay off using the in game toggle. If I use the old crossplay option that you have to turn off on system level, I can start a game but with a vast majority of AI (had 100% real players matches before the last update using this method).
Xplay option is completely bugged on xbox. If you use the in game option, it looks like AI are not added and match just doesn't start. If you use the system wide option it seems to work and adds AI to fill the gap. But it also looks like both options are considered as 2 different player pools, so the global population with xplay off on Xbox is divided even further and smaller than before and it's very hard to find a full match whatever the mode, time or region. PS5 is less impacted as it had a consistent way to turn off xplay from Day one, and they even have a disclamer asking a first time if you want to turn it on or off (so it's very easy for any PS5 player to understand that this is something possible, while xbox players might never knew about it or are now lost between 2 ways of turning it off, with one that seems completely broken...).
- 4 years ago@Jozso987 The Playstation player base alone absolutely dwarfs the PC community.
Best answer to this issue has been suggested multiple times. Make matchmaking dependent on input. M/K users across all platforms get to play each other and the experience for everyone is improved.
CoD has shown it can work, this should have been the standard EA/Dice strove for.
