I have no bloody idea what expectations have changed. What does "Wide and Deep with the game" actually mean? The game has been widely rejected and stays in deep trouble, that`s for sure.
Players wanted faction vs faction warfare, distinguishable uniforms, and vehicles from one another, militaristic feel to combat. Players anticipated Classes as usual in Conquest game mode, not some Specialists with even more ego-centric abilities. Players wanted a Server Browser with dedicated rental servers to host their games, not AI Lobby. Players wanted "Social" features like platoon page, statistics page, scoreboard, VoIP, all chat. Players wanted a stable release with plenty of content. Players wanted maps accommodating Infantry Warfare as well as Vehicular Combat with unprecedented destruction.
What previous standards? There are no other standards except for a rushed release with the incentive to capitalize on "Surprise Mechanics". Going deep with previous gameplay-wise standards would be enough in the first place.
Players have not asked never for such drastic changes as in BF2042.
Nice call outs there @Twordy ! 👍
When Miele describes that they "didn't go wide enough with the player segment", she tries to implore that EA/DICE actually did get feedback into their dev cycles, but... ...that they maybe did not include as many variations of typical player profiles to gather that feedback as they ought to have to get proficient and balanced feedback to the game development during the various development. cycles.
The reason why that is very problematic for her to say such things (and very upsetting to the BF player community) is that matter of fact then EA/DICE did not include ANY player feedback from the various technical playtest sessions in the early stages of this game design work. For the many of you that have been around for longer here and also experienced the different launches of BF games through the years, you will all be familiar with the EA Creator Network and their member organization. Likewise you will be familiar with the Game Changers.
Matter of fact is that EA/DICE did not run the sessions with these experienced player communities similar as in previous game development cycles. And the very few we got were all hosted so late before aka the closed beta that it was all game over when we could see what the game had already been made up to be and obviously EA/DICE did not take much/if any feedback into account for corrections before launch.
What do you all think is the reason why we have not seen any officially from the EA Creator Network or BF Game Changers here online since the Beta testing period and onwards?
Because EA/DICE essentially dissolved these organizations for the BF2042. (I think actually we saw one post from one of the brave BF Game Changers posting just after the Beta? And it was not to share how happy he was because all his input had been listened to and he therefore loved this final game product...)
Even worse I find and very disheartening to hear is the feedback we in the investor group have retrieved from disgruntled EA/DICE employees. Where it appears that even internally in the developer teams there was limited to no considerations for staff to provide feedback for some drastic game design decisions that were imposed. And that these decisions were made arbitrary by just a few select sr leaders with no deeper thought/considerations involved, despite concerned and knowledgeable staff at their disposal who from the onset pointed out the consequential shortcomings.
Had it just been one or two such bad decisions, it would potentially be forgivable and not too hard to make corrections on now in the final product. But looking at the substantial number of multiple deep ingrained and very substantial flaws, its no easy tasks to fix and turn around this now almost sunk Titanic. Only persons left onboard are the musicians and few persons who doesn't sense reality and how grave this situation is for the BF2042 game and the franchise.
Having less than 5% of players left after just 90 days after release of a AAA game sold for $90-120 is far from normal. Expecting this to turn around and being able to cash in on micro transactions when the season1 pack releases is as credible and substantial as the cringy stuff we get from the Specialist after each game round.
There were some comments posted a bit here above if BF2042 was "stable" or not. The BF2042 bug count was substantial above even BF4 and BFV at launch and 3 months in, as also recognized by EA/DICE. Not all players may have observed/suffered from these, which is great for them personally, but across the board then BF2042 has been horrendous in this respect. On date of full launch release there were less of the most severe direct application crashing bugs. But they increased dramatically in numbers with patch #1 and patch #2 releases, and many remains still active today. To the point that many paying customers have not been able to start the application to run.
That EA/DICE then further delays the patches of these is cause for more friction and dissatisfaction within the player base. And fueling further who wants to get their money back from this scheme.

I fell in love with a Laura once... She could tell me anything and I'd accept it as truth...
This isn't that Laura though.

I fully believe that EA Execs (LM) don't read any of the forums etc... They have someone else do it for them or they get their info from DICE management.
With that being said, it would explain the "out of touch" response they gave as to why they believe it failed. If you are getting this information from people who are trying to save their jobs, what more would you expect.
Most of the positive reviews that I have seen were from the media trying to keep their early access. It's gotten to the point now were any media review, weather movies video games etc.. can't be trusted because corporate America is implementing their own version of totalitarianism. In any case, EA management is out of touch with the player base and I don't see that changing any time soon. It's unfortunate but Battlefield may not comeback to what many in the fan base would like to see. Just my opinion.
