Do I Need PS4 Plus if I Want to Play on PS4? Battlefield 2042

Hello fellas. I am new to this foro and to this type of stuff as i have never used one before. I have one small doubt that i wish someone could answer me or speculate about with me.

As we all know the game will have no campaing and no free BR mode either. It will be FULL multiplayer. So does that mean that if i pay lets say 60-70 euros for a normal version of the game for PS4 i won't need to pay another 5 a month or 60 more for a PLUS card to play if the game is going to be FULLY MULTIPLAYER?

Or is this just another EA freaking scam that i will pay a lot to play just to find out you need to pay for Battle Pass and then also find out i have to pay to play without bots in a fully multiplayer based game which i think would make them lose players if i had to pay EXTRA  each month to play the game i have already BOUGHT. And i repeat! The game is fully multiplayer no excuse of free BR mode or Campaing only thing you will be able to do is play with bots .

For me this seems like logic human sense but knowing the gaming industry this days even tho my issue is stupid and for poor people its a big deal for me i don't want to get so so so hyped up for a game that i may not be able to play for that one reason. Hope someone reads this and cares about it LOL I AM DESESPERATED THIS FORO IS MY LAST RESOURCE TO FIND AN ANSWER.

Title edited to remove ALL CAPS.

  • EA scam? if anything it's Sony, not EA, since non of the PS Plus money go to EA.

Every multiplayer game on PS4 require PS Plus to play, I'm not sure why you want to buy the game for PS4 if you don't have PS Plus... however, this game have an offline mode with bots, I think this mode is avilable without PS Plus.

Also, even if it had BR, it's not a free BR game like Apex, it's like BFV, which mean it's a only a game mode, only FREE BR games don't require PS Plus.

In general, the MP mode is the main mode of all Battlefield games, even if the have a campign, if you want to get it on PS4, you need PS Plus, if you don't want a subscription, either get a PC or choose a single player game, I only play SP games on my consoles, so I don't have either PS Plus or Xbox Live.

@mathematics654* hate this industry man i am tired of getting hyped for this *. I am under age i cannot buy a good pc able to run it or pay ps4 plus unless i buy a card because my parents are highly scared of the Internet. Meaning that this is another amazing game i won't be able to play because of Sony making me pay extra to play a game that is entirely multiplayer based. And yeah true Sony's scam EA loves the micropayments. Thanks for the response tho.

@UndoneInternet There are many stores that sell PS Plus cards, while I'm not underaged, I'm not that into digital shopping as well, the only websites I trust are Netflix, Origin and (by much lower level) Steam, I assume you are going to get the game physical, in the store where you buy the game, you can proboly get a PS Plus card, also, you don't need to buy the battle passes at all, those are only cosmetics, you better off getting a PS Plus card instand.

@UndoneInternet Is there any chance your parents would reconsider or reach a compromise - there are parental controls or they could supervise, for example? It does seem a shame so thought I'd ask.

@mathematics654 Yeah i mean most likely i will buy a card of 1 year soon then after a rest of 4 months or so game will come out my parents will accept using another 60 euros or more on the game and then i may use the card and play for 1 year before having to buy another one. I can ofc always buy a cheaper one but it will last less. And yeah i buy physical games too it feels special and i trust it more and i don't really have much more options can't wait to start working and just do whatever to play such amazing game and have fun with it if it isn't dead already ofc. That is another shame by the day i will do it myself i may need new generation consoles to play them but i hope the community does it job in keeping it alive.
  • @ElliotLH The problem is not parental control they just don't trust online shopping and don't want to pay 5 a month for Plus because they say i should have enough with a PS4 and games and the game itself will be expensive already and they won't accept to pay even more to play they will find it as unfair stupid and a scam which i do too. And a PC is too expensive for them to even consider it. I will find a way out to play even if its for not a so long time with some card ty for the response tho didn't expect to get any so quickly.

@UndoneInternet Ah I've got you now. Thought you were in a similar situation to when I was young (many, many, many years ago) where my parents were just not keen on the Internet in general. Took a long time to talk them around.

Hopefully you can find some way of enjoying it still.
  • @UndoneInternet Not every game requires PS Plus. I think a lot of the free games don't. A retail game like Battlefield 2042 I would expect would require PS Plus or Xbox Live.

It's not that big a deal. Watch for sales on PS Plus. They just had one where you get a year for $40 or so. They'll have them in the fall as well. That's when I always extend mine.

Besides, PS Plus also gives you a lot of free games, so it can end up more than paying for itself.

You also get increased discounts on PS Store sales. It's worth it.

@ArchAngeL-PCX Yeah i know a lot of games are free and many games fully based on multiplayer are free without need of PS4 Plus because that is literally all they are about. I expected BF2042 to require it for being such a game that is more important than others but since i heard it was going to focus mostly on Multiplayer i had that small hope there and that big doubt that i wanted to get out of my mind. If there is a big sale and it costs less there may actually be a big chance i get to play my first BF after so many years of just watching videos amazed-

Diablo 3 used to play online without needing PSPlus.  It could be different now.

Otherwise, for Battlefield 2042 you need the PSPLus subscription.
