@Trokey66I honestly thought while counter knifing was a fun gimmick, it was something comically implemented (as you say, it should be front only), and i'm honestly not sure it really added much.
Yea, a counter was fun to watch (and when you pulled it off obviously), but it wasn't *that* unreliable either, and i remember a couple of dry/dry episodes where going for the knife was the "only" option where it felt almost inevitable you were going to die because you went for the knife on instinct and then went "oh, he's just going to counter, i should have reloaded" as the nature of it almost made it feel like the person who initiated was disadvantaged. Can't counter a counter after all.
(Or could you? Getting hazy memories of just mashing the knife keybind hoping you "won", i honestly don't remember if that was superstition or if it actually mattered)
I get that making it "however QTE'd right the most times" would probably lead to someone standing in the middle of the map, unkillable and locked in a back and forth for 5 minutes, but i also think the concept itself was somewhat unfair. It used to be if you got your point blank attack off first, you "won". After counter-knifing, it felt like it wasn't worth the risk to initiate quite often, my opinion at least.
Maybe show a flipping coin during the struggle animation and finish it based on a randomizer both players can see (ie; the "coin" landing etc) and genuinely make it totally random if conditions for a counter-knife were met like both players hitting their attack button inside .5 of a second or something.
Would make the counter-deaths easier to eat at least.
I sure hope there isn't counter-knifing - As a tag hunter I can't STAND that mechanic (I mean, at least make the prompt random if anything)
