EA, if you are listening this game feels….off

So I spent all of yesterday playing this game and realized after my initial hype died down, that I believe this game (2042 itself) will die pretty quickly. I’ll explain the reasons why I believe this game was ultimately just a quick cash grab by EA. Also, please don’t misunderstand me and think that I’m just judging the game because of bugs/glitches, there are things that are very wrong fundamentally, mechanically, and at the very core of this game. It really doesn’t feel much like battlefield at all (I personally am requesting a refund)

Movement - Players in 2042 literally feel like they are skating on ice and on roller blades. The movement speed is way too fast and very similar to Apex in the way characters run. The “clunkiness” and camera shaking that came with previous Battlefield titles is no longer present and really affects the way this game feels. You of course can change to classes in portal, but even that feels different compared to older games.

Audio - The audio is nothing like previous battlefields. As a musician and teacher who understands sound design, this game really is lacking for a “next gen title.” It literally feels as if EA copy and pasted aspects of audio from older games and added absolutely nothing new when it comes to sound design. (Some how it actually feels worse than older titles). Those moments when you enter a closed space and experience the reverb of explosions around you, seemed to be nonexistent. Very similar to generic sounds in any other shooter, rather than sounds that we’re actually recorded by real weapons/explosions.

Too clean - This is a harder one to describe but the games environment doesn’t really feel like a “battlefield” at all. The environments seem way too clean and pristine for it to feel immersive as a warzone. Again it seems very similar to apex layout and it’s also lacking destruction…which leads me to the next point.

Destruction - EA just admit this one, you guys straight up lied to the community. There is absolutely no groundbreaking destruction in this game and it actually feels worse than the old games! We even have the older maps in game to directly compare it to! Lol!! Battlefield just isn’t Battlefield without destruction and goes with the “too clean” point.

Organization and map design - I’m not sure how many of you have taken the time to pull up and the maps and actually look at all of the contested sectors (conquest specifically), but there are serious design flaws. Many of the sectors are almost totally abandoned and just covered with a few bots here and there. Usually only one or two sectors are hotly contested and it is almost impossible for you and a squad to cap those points alone like in previous titles. I could go on about this, but all in all the map design really isn’t good.

AI and Bots- The AI has a “snap” where you will get shot immediately after rounding corners. This is not only extremely annoying but fundamentally flawed. I find myself many times rounding a corner and being weakened by AI because of this immediate aim lock, just to gun them down and get gunned down after by a real player from having no health.

Teamwork - Yeah I think we can probably agree on this one that self play is obviously very emphasized. This game really doesn’t have much teamwork at all in comparison to previous titles. This also goes with the organizational aspect of the game, it’s not organized at all.

Specialists - Man. I hated specialists before the game released but said I would try them because it looked interesting in some ways. This is probably the dumbest feature in a battlefield game and doesn’t fit at all. Don’t misunderstand me about the gadgets though, because the gadgets are sometimes pretty cool. Specialists themselves look awkward running around and go with tge whole organizational and teamwork problems that I’ve already mentioned. I find myself not knowing who has what, where to get ammo, heals, etc.

This post is long and I have even more I could list but these were the most glaring and obvious issues that exist with the game. I’m very disappointed. Not in EA, but in the fact that I gave them a dime of my money. You call tell this game had “executive decisions” written all over, albeit really really stupid ones lol. It’s very obvious that things that shouldn’t be copied from other games, were. *cough cough* Apex.

You also can tell that this game tried WAY too hard to appeal to new audiences and is the jack of all trades but the king of none. It’s nothing like battlefield any more. I personally don’t think these things can or will be fixed.

I may buy this game again at a later date to basically just play the remastered versions of the old games. Though I’ll admit, those even felt weird with this new engine. Hopefully you’re listening DiCE/EA. Stop chasing money and start chasing quality and you will get the money you so desire.
