I'll admit that I disliked the specialists as well when I first started playing. I was having an awful time trying to play the game like it was BF4.1
When I gave in and started playing with them as intended I started having a much better time. I also swapped load-outs and specialists several times in a game depending on situation. I almost never did this in BF4. I had a load-out that I "mained" that could deal with just about anything, and I stuck with it. Namely Engineer with a carbine and RPG.
If you remember BF4 from looking at your Squad and team mates, it was also usually about 80% Engineers on the team and usually 100% Engineers in your squad. People were picking classes predominately for the weapons and building a Jack-of-all-trades soldier.
So they freed us up from that choice and I am personally enjoying the variety this encourages.

that is why i like the flexibility of the specialists. i also love the ability to change loadout (and combine any weapon with any gadget) on the fly if i run across a crate or if i'm using angel
- 4 years ago@Psubond Then changing classes shouldn't be a problem with crates as they are set up for a quick click and change. A "specialist" falk with rocket launcher, sniper rifle, and ammo box is a recipe for do it all characters

@fragnsteinyou ignored the part about the flexibility to run any gadgets with any guns (specialists are just a gadget)
wait, how do you get falk with a rocket launcher and an ammo box?

the topic has been debated in the forums more then enough. some people......... have a rather combative stance or downright dismissive of any notion the specialists could be detremantel to gameplay.... i am not willing to ellaborate further for fear what might happen.....
there have been some interesting ideas for compromise and reworks in general if you care to look for them that is.
my favorite so far would be to restrict gadget selection and some weapon choices, with a pure gadget restriction sounding to me as the most likely change DICE would do but hey what do i know... - Psubond4 years agoLegend@X-Sunslayer-X i think they should just leave it alone and let people maintain their flexibility on loadouts

You cant. That's why you can only carry 1 "gadget" if so everyone would use launcher + ammo crate. I usually main angel with the recoilless m5
- 4 years ago@fragnstein I’m not sure you play the game. You cannot run rocket launcher and an ammo box
