@VRACinque Lets be straight, the community has such diverse opinions, that can be funneled in the term "The Specialists Issue", which is a very wide field about what people think is wrong with BF2042.
For me it groups into several subcategories:
- Class Restrictions aka unrestricted vs.
- Weapon Type
- Gadgets
- Throwables
- Cosmetics aka faction and class specific look vs.
- Name
- Gender
- Look
Also I like know when people say "Classes are better than Specialists" which classes do they speak about BF2 classes, BF4 classes? Because that makes a huge difference, to understand what peoples issues actually are.
So I what I assume I hear a lot is "BF3 classes are better than Specialists" and since I am a BF4 player, that played BF3 only for research purposes, I had to google a lot about BF3 classes. And I came to the conclusion that BF3 classes are not so different from the Specialists. BF3 has 4(+1) classes with one irreplaceable main gadget, the +1 because there are Anti-Tank Engineers and Anti-Air Engineers.
So there must be reason behind why people say this, but I don't get it. In BF4 I have the freedom, not to equip a defibrillator as assault, not to bring an ammo crate as a support, not to bring a ranged anti-vehicle weapon as an engineer, and not to bring a spawn beacon as a recon.
When BF3 players choose their class for their main gadget, the same is true for the BF2042 players, or they choose the BF3 class for the class specific weapon type, and annoyed team mates by just ignoring their primary gadget.
With the reveal of BF2042 my first comment was, I don't think the specialists are a good idea. Having the only medic being a woman will cause the more issues, than BFV defaulting medics and recons to female models. I am pretty sure, the reason why Angel can revive team mates is about this gender issue.
For me, I would be happy when they replace the specific cosmetics with something faction based generics.

I think they might of been able to sell this specialist thing better if they at least looked different on each team. maybe people would be willing to give it a shot? but having everybody look the same in a shooter where fractions of a second count on your reaction to seeing enemy or friend shoot or dont shoot is just terrible.

@DrunkwoIf I really don't think so. People have many criticisms of the Specialists but one of the recurring themes is they don't like being a named stateless soldier with a personality and back story - many BF players prefer to play as the traditional nameless soldier on the team as a member of a nation state's army. Add in that the personalities of the Specialists are absolutely atrocious and unfitting of the theme and narrative that 2042 was sold on being far more suitable for Apex Legends and peoples' objections become even stronger. That's not even considering the negative game play impacts that the specialists' gadgets have on teamwork, flow of battle, and predictability.
That being said the feedback that I personally left during the tech test, beta, and launch stated that faction specific cosmetics were necessary or we'd have big issues identifying friend from foe. I also stated that having difference Specialists for each faction with faction specific uniforms was even better.

In my opinion dropping the weapon restrictions and gadget restrictions was a logical and good change for the franchise.- Psubond4 years agoLegend
