I want them gone forever. Thanos snapped, obliterated, erased from the franchise.
@rippedwire01 so do I however since some players bought the game with Specialists advertised I think Specialists should be maintained in a side mode as I mentioned above for those who like them while giving us a traditional class based AOW Battlefield mode without Specialists. For the next game I hope Specialists are completely gone but I don't think anything the game launches with should be removed permanently since some people do enjoy them in 2042.
There's already precedent for this type of action from DICE too. In BF4 the game launched with full mag dumps when you reloaded in core and in hard core whereas full mag dumps were formerly only in hard core. The community gave feedback that we wanted the core mechanic to be like earlier core versions without the full mag dump and DICE made the change. In order to please the people who liked the launch version with full mag dumps DICE kept the launch version of core with the full mag dump and called it "classic mode". Everyone was happy so I think this type of mentality is how best to appease all sides in the current 2042 vision wars.
That'd be a nice alternative. Unfortunately I don't think the current DICE is capable of doing something like that.

@rippedwire01 I think they are capable of doing this if they listen to the community and commit money to salvaging 2042. I don't say this because "they did it with BF4" because let's face it, the DICE we have today is not the DICE that made BF3 or the DICE LA saved BF4. They'll do it because they have to or Battlefield as a franchise and DICE as a studio may not survive. I really enjoyed Medal of Honor Warfighter despite its shortcomings, but it only took one under-performing entry to kill the series with MoHW (and close Danger Close as a result, and close Visceral after Dead Space 3 and Hardline's sales numbers) and 2042 would be the second failure (or really third if we look at player retention numbers for BF1) in a row from DICE so thinking that EA will continue to shell out cash for a series when the vision since 2018 has been so starkly at odds with what the Battlefield player base wants and has been very vocal about for years is in my opinion unlikely. Note - I have no special inside information here this is just me war gaming the situation.
That sounds far more doom and gloom than I intended, however my point was to illustrate that not salvaging 2042 isn't an option for DICE in my opinion. Now whether or not they open the gates to community feedback like the recent communication stated they will, and actually act on that feedback is another matter entirely. All we can do as a community is vote with our playtime to make a point, and give constructive and robust feedback to DICE on what we want and expect whenever we can.
