Perhaps DICE has listened to one of the major complaints on here and included a region/ping lock in MM.
A return to a Server Browser would negate that and we would return to "why won't DICE put in a region/ping lock because the game is unplayable with out of region players cheating!".
Of course, I may be wrong but we don't know how MM works exactly.
All I'm saying is, be careful what we wish for.....
I wish that was indeed the case @Trokey66 , but I have myself confirmed at multiple occasions now to be placed into games with players both from Japan and South America. And I am myself based in Europe. (when playing on PS5 and cross play disabled, AOW Breakthrough 128 players game mode). Confirmed by simply messaging some of the other players you see in the game via the Sony PS5 messenger service. But yes, I assume they were honest in their messaging on their locations. The lack of hit registration was the reason I tried to message some of them, and in most cases they were far out of region players... (this was back in mid January 2022)
The server browser and the scoreboard need both to display the latency rate. Both to the servers and also to the individual players in the game on the servers. Just as the PC players have had it for many years when renting BF servers.

Based on your experiences MM would appear not to be applying a region / ping lock then.
As you say we need to revert back to the previous system.

Correct @RayD_O1 ,
Now we don't know the exact Match Making Rules that may have been coded into the system, but it is definitely not a hard lock, that blocks different regions from being merged in with each other. Because that has been confirmed already not to be the case. But maybe there are some business logic that first try as priority to put players together within the same region. And then if not available to start a server with aka 50% of all players ready, then it maybe opens up for also pulling in out of region players that are in same situation in their own region?
Again, simple things that EA ought to have shared the description of with us. But instead they have stayed totally silent on this, despite that this was indeed as highlighted by @Trokey66 at the very top of the wish list from BF veterans. And similarly brought up as a concern when we went through the technical playtesting and the beta periods...
Probably jumping to conclusions, but the very fact that the server session and the associated players are only kept alive for one single game round, and then kicking all players back out in the lobby after each round, for then again to repeat the whole match making process is not a good sign. And moreover, the fact the player is not even put into a sequence of rotation between the different maps, is a further bad sign. Namely bad signs on that not much deeper thought, rationale or logic has been put into this function at all. So expect no business rules have been applied either in the matchmaking routine in the code. Not at present time for sure...
Again, none of this would be needed anyway, if we all just played the Battle Royal game that BF2042 was intended to be from the get go.

You have covered a lot of very valid points there.
As you say DICE have never spelt out the workings of MM but it's clearly not performing satisfactorily judging by the number of players demanding that they should bring back the Server Browser / Server System used previously.
I agree there appears to have been little or no logic applied, and the overall result is just a bit of a mess that leaves players either unable to play at all, or only able to play the way MM forces them to.
MM may work in a BR environment but it certainly isn't working in a BF one, and it's a retrograde step for the BF series to have gone this route.
The feedback on these forums and the dwindling player base says it all, MM needs replacing asap.

All we know about the matchmaking is from observations made from outside the black box.
"Crossplay on" parties never join "Crossplay off" lobbies. eg. A PC only party that has crossplay enabled will not join a "PC Crossplay off lobby"
Soft region lock, it appears out of region matchmaking happens only during off peak times. I have no clue if that is happening constantly, or if there are fixed time windows that trigger that behavior.
Obviously each featured mode has its own matchmaking pools. eg. and increase in different modes reduces the likelyhood that a lobby fills fast.
After each match, each party returns to their respective match make pool, lobbies are never re-used.
- Trokey664 years agoSeasoned Ace@CyberDyme Those you messaged may have initially joined on 'in region' friends or have slipped through the net due to buggy code, we don't know.
A few messages from a few random players does not make it proof positive.
Fact is we don't know how MM works and because issues certainly seem to be regional from far more sources than yours.
You could be right but I suspect region plays a part in all this perhaps not in the exact way I have described but is a factor.
Again, I wouldn't totally discount it on the basis of a few messages.- RayD_O14 years agoHero
At this point in time we can't be sure exactly how MM is working.
The only thing I am sure of is that MM is not working satisfactorily for the many players who are asking for a proper server browser system.
I personally don't believe MM will ever be up to the job unless it is used exclusively for the quick match option alongside a proper server browser / persistent servers system for those who want to play and stay on servers of their choice.
Imho DICE need to act on this asap before BF2042 loses any more players who are leaving either because they can't get into the game or are sick of playing the same map over and over etc....
