At this point in time we can't be sure exactly how MM is working.
The only thing I am sure of is that MM is not working satisfactorily for the many players who are asking for a proper server browser system.
I personally don't believe MM will ever be up to the job unless it is used exclusively for the quick match option alongside a proper server browser / persistent servers system for those who want to play and stay on servers of their choice.
Imho DICE need to act on this asap before BF2042 loses any more players who are leaving either because they can't get into the game or are sick of playing the same map over and over etc....

The lobby is not the way to go, especially for those who used to host their games and play together with small groups.
The lobby is a good solution for competitive, 5vs5 ranked games. 64 player Conquest as a lobby match is nada, no, zero incentive to play any longer. Not to mention a complete lack of any social aspects of the game. Everything comes down to sprint competitions against mass AI farms.

If DICE continue to force MM on the BF community then as far as I am concerned it will be the death knell for the BF series.
As you mentioned it is managing to destroy the social aspect which in turn is driving players away in droves.
Sadly BF2042 no longer looks or feels like battlefield in any shape or form.
