Engi’s are extremely weak and not fun in 2042

I can carry 5 AT or 5 AA rockets plus 5 AT mines BF4. Or I can carry 5 Stingers plus 2 AA mines. 

BF1 Support can kill tanks quickly  w 2 Limpets and an AT nade. And that’s w infinite Limpet ammo via resupplying themselves w ammo crate. 

BF1 Assault’s AT loadouts is amazing. 

All of these games are undoubtedly superior to 2042 so there’s no plausible argument as to why 2042 Engi’s are just so utterly USELESS with such WEAK loadouts. 

3 rockets? 2 RPGs? And versus air? What a joke. I just endless shoot my 3 AA rockets then instantly respawn 3 to 5 times  just to take down a single Helicopter. Nobody drops ammo and there are no ammo crates at objectives ala BFV. It’s a bad joke. 

Engi’s in 2042 feel weak and they’re extremely bad at performing their primary anti vehicle role compared to Engineers in all other BF games. They’re just not fun to play.

    My preferred method of soloing ground vehicles is Smoke grenade + AT mines directly at the vehicle.
    High risk / high reward. I usually do this as Lis in order to have both the ATM mines/C5 and her proprietary launcher in case I need to finish the job at range.

    Meanwhile there is a much more minimal risk at chucking rockets from cover, hence smaller reward. Thus I consider that soloing ground vehicles from range is not something that should be expected. If one finds themselves the only one doing anything about a dangerous vehicle, then the problem is more in the quality of their team than the balance.

    If a tanker is being a "clever girl" I will  just focus even more aggressively to take them out even if I have to take several deaths to accomplish it.

    @UP_HawxxeyeInteresting tactic, but only an idiot ground vehicle driver will sit and wait for someone to chuck mines/C5 on them if they see smoke. And now they have thermal scopes, even harder to approach close enough without being seen.

    Also doesn't answer the question of air vehicles. Rockets are really the only answer there and Lis rocket is awful since they slowed it down, very easy to dodge, and everything else is useless/easily countered.

    I main engineer on every BF title and this one is even more difficult to master.  I don't know what has changed, but lately I've been running around asking for ammo when I never really had to.  Something is wrong with the ammo situation.

    And don't get me started on vehicles, the only thing you can do is switch to armor rounds, which in truth work well in shooing off air vehicles.

    The anti tank mine is the only way to go, its suicide of course, but sometimes you get a satisfying kill when you deny armor from capping.

    The Liz rockets are so-so, its a stand-off weapon that never gets a kill or drive off armor and its super slow to turn, pretty difficult to hit any air vehicles unless they are right above you and steady.  Even then, all they have to do is wiggle their wings and the rocket goes wide.

    The engi in this game isn't as satisfying as previous titles, I don't seem to be able to contribute to the team like I'm used to.

    You would be surprised.

    Most people are not aware of how aggressively the AT mines are used and unlike C5, they will stay there until destroyed. So even if they kill you ,they might still follow you to the respawn screen shortly after.

    A couple of months ago I was dealing with a skilled MAV crew with an insanely accurate 50mm gunner.

    After several failed direct attempts to get them, I placed 3 mines around a corner near me and then used myself a bait by firing 2 Lisiles and taking cover to "reload". The driver decides to take the initiative come to line of sight near me around the corner and.... KABOOM. Their Huge killstreak ended.

    PS: the player smokes, should be at least concealing from the thermals right now

    The issue is that the best counter to a vehicle is its own hard counter.
    Is a tank bothering you? use the TOR and obliterate it in two shots across the map.

    Is a chopper bothering you? use the TOR and obliterate it in one shot across the map.

    Is a RAM bothering you? use the TOR and obliterate it in two shots across the map.

    Is a MAV bothering you? use the TOR and obliterate it in two or three shots across the map.

    Is a TOR obliterating your teams vehicles from their base? tough luck if you push the enemy TOR he might get the first shot off and win.

    The main issue in 2042 is the nonexistent balance in between vehicles. For example, the new Attack Chopper changes were good and needed, the issue is if three of them fly around and all you have is one Wildcat to deal with it especially if your "team" uses the Jets as glorified hypersonic taxis to bail from after 5s....

    But you know DICE would never push half-baked changes on their live servers. Right?.......

    @Zhukov211 That is the good question - what is role of engineer - how powerfull should he be ? In this game no single engineer can take on a tank alone and win. In BF5 he was perhaps way too overpowered - 3 panzerfausts, dynamite and tank bundle nade. One guy could take out a Tiger tank alone - no team play needed here. Think Dice wanted to make sure that to take out tank you need cooperation. Now choppers in this game is wrong - and proof of that is the massive kill streaks they have all the time - stealth and littlebird being the worst. The way littlebird is able to fly is so unrealistic - flares are dead wrong - mini gun that never heats up. ground radar / thermal sights.... no doubt Dice loves choppers very very much !. Currently I'm playing Lis and trying to learn how to fly those damn missiles into choppers. With me I also have c4 and smoke nades. That combo often let me take out tanks alone - smoke nades around tank - run in and 3 c4's and he is dead !
    But def. agree - compared to other BF titles the engineer is not on same level. For a team to win you need all - Rao to hack choppers and stealth + soflam to spot. Medics to revive etc - you cannot win this game single handed as in previous titles !
    Stationary AA guns / missile systems would be nice + TOW missiles.

    However the TOR is also borderline useless against the main threat in the battlefield. Infantry.
    This is why I still pick the MBTs over the TOR unless some Vehicle hero is REALLY making me desperate to stop them.

    The TOR is otherwise clunky and boring. At least they said they have plans to change things related to it.

  • Against any good vehicle camper, engineers are pretty much useless and frustrating to use. This is with engineers teaming up.

    APS and smoke will deny any effort. Just like against the stealth heli stealthmode+flares. It's a too powerful of a countermeasure-combo.
