Feature request: BF2042 Companion App with LIVE MAP

EA Help sent me here.

I loved having the ability to view the map of the current game i am in on my tablet, sitting next to my PC monitor when playing Battlefield 4. It was a unique experience that immersed me deeper into the battle and gave me valuable informations while being on the move.

I ask you to revive this branch of the Battlefield experience, since we now have even bigger maps and having the option for an auxiliary display would be a great addition. For this feature and potentially others in the future.

This auxiliary display could then also be used to "move over" other parts of the HUD that the player feels somewhat distracted by, yet he does need these infos sometimes, but not always. Like the text-chat, for example. This would allow for a more immersive gameplay with a more minimalistic HUD, yet without the downsides of not having those optional details available at all.

ALTERNATIVE: If you find the development of a companion app too time consuming, or no longer part of your design goals, perhaps we could get this feature on PC for multi-monitor setups at least, so that we could dedicate a secondary monitor to always display the ingame-map (and other squad related details perhaps / configurable). The downside to this alternative implementation is of course that console players could feel left out. I would therefore very much prefer an IOS/Android version which would then work cross-platform.

If you support this idea, please click "Me too" so it gains visibility.

Thank you.

  • @m3nt0r_xd hmmm couldn't this extra permanent info screen give you the edge over other players by telling your team mates where the enemy is?
Not everyone has a tablet and will only be able to pop up the map onscreen now and again rather than full time. Could be exploited as a sort of cheat.

@DTA_Samurai Yes, but that is kinda the point. It was amazing in BF4 as you had a constant full map overview of what is going on and could make strategic decisions as you observe how the battle is shifting. Battlefield was a PC only title and therefore having more than 1 monitor also wasn't that uncommon. When tablets came out it was sort of a natural evolution to use that too. Thats the beauty of PC that you can have your own peripherals like joysticks, wheels, HOTAS, gamepads etc.. to optimize your experience. I don't see those as a cheat. You don't see 'more'. Any player can toggle view the map. This is just a permanent display of said map on a secondary screen.
  • I quite like using the Companion app for BF4/1, it's handy for changing loadouts and so on, but I don't think we'll see anything similar for BF2042. Then again I'm thinking that mostly as it was dropped for BFV and there doesn't seem to have been anything said about it since.

  • @ElliotLH Yes, i am not too optimistic either, but i see great potential. Especially now that have CrossPlay. On PC it is easy to dual-monitor and have an advantage (if they implement multi-display support with customizable HUD/map view). Even if it is just to have a browser open.. it is easy for PC players. Now we got console players and they don't have such an option. Here is where a companion app could come in and provide those "secondary monitor" experience to non-PC players.

Also these features would be an incentive to even mess with that app at all. Most companion apps in the past were neglected because besides some stats, news and friendlist didn't do much. If the app is interactive, live and helps you progress challenges etc.. i think this could actually become a great success this time.

@DTA_Samurai No different than someone who has multiple buttons on a mouse to add macros to or faster gpu better vid card, etc gives people an advantage. Buy a cheap tablet or 2nd monitor - won’t be much more than the game itself

    Hi everyone,

Since this topic hasn't been active since August 2022, I'm going to have to close it. However, if anyone wants to continue the discussion about a Companion App then please feel welcome to create a new thread.
