[Feedback] Menu & Interface System User Exeprience
Hey Everyone,
So I started to play Battlefield since Battlefield 2, 3, bd, 4, and all the rest till now also, so I know pretty well the evolution the game went through, pretty much like most of you I believe.
It's sad to say that but it seems like most players are not new players that have just been exposed to the franchise.
And I will extend why I think this is one of the reasons for that.
As a game developer, and Frontend Engine developer in my daily routine I feel like it's also my responsibility to share my feedback in the hope that we (the dev team and the community) step by step the game back on the road.
First, I want to say I really like lots of features you add to the game and make it evolutionary, the 128 players in the server are something really amazing, especially while it's cross-platform, I really welcome any company that decides to make this step and bring all players together. Also the graphic and the battle system that hasn't lost his touch.
so right to the point.
I played this game since day 1 for about 2-3 months and stopped, then back after a while when season 2 was out and then I felt it was still too messy and stopped again and now I came back a few weeks ago again to experience the changes and guess what, nothing changes where its really needed. The interface and Menu UX/UI
What I mean,
1. Server Preference:
seems like since Battlefront 2 the company decided to go for simplicity we got it,
Only a few buttons click and go, faster as possible, no thinking, they will make the choices for us.
But this is the biggest mistake in FPS games.
Most players want to have control over their own preferences, it's part of the game experience.
Some want to play specific maps and modes let's say also hardcore in additional, and extend the time and point reach of the match which is something that most of the users complain about, or any additional mode extra. and others just want to choose randomly and it's fine,
The thing is, most of those players, don't have lots of time to play during the week, and wasting their time on playing modes and games they don't want to, will hurt their user experience.
In my opinion, the Battlefield 4 server browsing was perfect in that matter.
2. Collection and gear organization:
One of the most hurtful parts to see for every person is this section, I still don't understand how it still looks like that.
The list of Weapons looks like it's way to the bottom and cut out of the screen, My first action without notice I tried to look for extending button to drag to the top of the list of weapons because it was soo wrong positioned.
Also, in the Attachment section, the interaction with the buttons is confusing, I still didn't find how to remove all attachments from a weapon or remove only one attachment.
and for the last one, the Drones section, the one that gives you the feeling that the game is still BETA, for some reason it calls Drones section while the only thing over there is a Ranger robot.
On one side it's a really wrong idea to have the whole section to only one item because it's kind of giving us the feeling that the game is still in development. and from the other, it feels like it is really sloppy.
3. Matchmaking System:
So we decided to join to specific match, and we waited, for 1-5 minutes include of game rendering and everything else. we finally joined the server, and guess what then you hear some background music that implies the end of the match. how frustrating is that?
Now you spent more than 1-15 minutes for nothing and more than 5 minutes of reloading and watching all the statistics of the game without notice you find yourself trying to enjoy the game for almost 20 minutes without even playing!
What if I would tell you that this is the easiest functionality to handle in every game development? so why it hasn't been taken care of yet ?
It's ok to join a match when it's on his 30-40% maximum, more than that it's just a bad user experience.
4. Battle Pass:
I didn't understand anything really, I actually have no problem buying extra content in the game, but to do that I want you to explain to me what I will get.
Instead of that, the game gives you hints of what you will get, buy the Elite edition which is suggested in the intro right ? you will agree and go for it, but wait it does not include the premium, or session pass, or whatever they called I already lost track of that with all the salad they made... which by the way apparently this premium thing is not included the Elite, which is another attempt to confuse the consumer. and again hurt your user experience.
5. Cross-platform:
I think this is the first game in the franchise this option is on, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first time I noticed that, and this is really welcome, I really happy to see that, especially in game of mass players like Battlefield that required to bring all players for any platform together instead of split them in different servers.
Only one thing that it's still annoying to handle, only a few games in the world have this option which is platform synchronization,
What do I mean? well basically as a user name the email [edit: email address removed] has a user account with EA I bought the game on the pc and bought the game on the ps5 (which will be all happy to buy only once but this is something we are not there right? ) now while I'm connecting to the game it asks me to connect to my account in EA which literally rely on the same account but somehow they are not synchronized. not by progress not by friends nothing.
The last feedback is more about Gameplay just because it's annoying me so much.
Green and Red Light on the Chest of Soldiers, is a game that works so hard to look tactical as possible. even though its more future warfare,
I think the most wrong thing in warfare is to put a Red or Green light on each Soldier on the map like it's some Laser Tag combat.
It's something that ruins the experience of dramatic combat in my opinion.
I have more plenty of subjects to discuss, but I felt like those are the most important to share because looks like none of them addressed yet.
Hope my feedback will help in the future and I hope I gave good details about each one of them.
Thanks, Aviv.
