Frost bite 4???

I actually thought that Frostbite had stopped referring to a certain Frostbite number, but I may be wrong on this?

Think that the last formal 'version number update' we got to Frostbite was all way back in October 2013 I think it was.  And there have been a barrage of many many game releases since then, all utilizing the Frostbite game engine.  Like Need for Speed Rivals, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Dragon Age: Inquisition.  BF Hardline, then the Golf game Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, Star Wars Battlefront, FIFA 17.  BF1, Mass Effect, Madden NFL and BFV.  Etc etc...  So the Frostbite 3 engine has undoubtedly gone through many many updates since the initial release.

But EA do not appear driven for any reason to actually make incremental changes to any version number to refer to it at all.  One can also ask, why would they even need to?  As it is an internal game developer tool only.  Like here for the last major releases of the The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S versions of FIFA 21, released in December 2020, there we saw some dramatic graphical enhancement features now enabled by an updated Frostbite engine to take advantage of the newer hardware on those new console generations.  Think we also saw the Star Wars: Squadrons game now having support for high frame rates and 4K resolution !

I expect that also being the case for our next BF2042 game!  No matter what version number EA may quote the Frostbite engine will be on come November 2021.  ;o)
