Glowsticks show through weather and smoke, at any range. You will be seen

I think we should remove or reduce the glowsticks on enemies and team mates. In the image attached, by the left side 4 is a tagged enemy marker. On the right by the 2 are two enemy glowsticks. Even 600m away through the hourglass sandstorm these are still easily visible. This is bad for a few reasons

1. Extremely rough for infantry. 600m away in the sandstorm, they can't hide from my sniper

2. Extremely bad for snipers. If I can see them, they can see me. What's the point of setting up a nice spot on a rooftop or lying in the bushes of manifest if I am glowing and easy to see

3. Makes weather mechanic useless. Why create weather to reduce visibility if I can just shoot the glowing dots?

4. Makes smokes useless. I can't find the file but I have been disappointed with this mechanic for a while. I had taken a video of where I was able to throw a smoke grenade and then shoot two enemies on the other side of the smoke because I saw their glowsticks bleeding through like lasers in Battlefield 4.

I can understand why this mechanic was added since everyone on both teams is using the same characters, but it needs to be removed, reduced, or improved.

  • Really? What magnification do you have that sight screenshot at? Even with the blow-up, those 'glowsticks' dots you are pointing out are like <10% of the sights center dot. If that is actually helping you, my thought is more power to you, brother.

    1. Extremely rough for infantry. 600m away in the sandstorm, they can't hide from my sniper

Again, if those barely visible specs are helping you snipe, have at it.

    2. Extremely bad for snipers. If I can see them, they can see me. What's the point of setting up a nice spot on a rooftop or lying in the bushes of manifest if I am glowing and easy to see

Your sniper scope glint doesn't give you away, but your 'glowstick' will? (btw, thanks for PTFO sniper guy)

    3. Makes weather mechanic useless. Why create weather to reduce visibility if I can just shoot the glowing dots?

Answered yourself. REDUCE visibility, not make you invisible.

    4. Makes smokes useless

This must be something that occurs at a distance, because when I'm in CQC or on an objective, and someone pops smoke, I can't see their 'glowsticks unless they are right on top of me

  • @Corvus8gamingI noticed this too, the enemy appears like large blinking blurred red lights, completely giving away their position. It definitely involves depth of field because I mostly only see it when in a gunner seat and zooming in or when scoping in with a long range scope.

Being spotted and getting shot while in smoke is really stupid. This was fixed in BFV, but seems to be back now.

But 2042 has way too much spotting in general. Spotting gadgets (balls, turrets etc etc), minimap spot when shooting and glowing red dots on enemies. It really makes playing much less fun  (you are spotted almost constantly) and the 'playing the minimap' thing from BF4 is back again.

For me the minimap spotting when shooting should be removed and the red dot mechanic should probably be adjusted somehow - it seems too much at the moment.

@Corvus8gaming One of the advertised features at launch was, that the found a solution to improve enemy visibility. At that point it was a lack of any camos for the specialists, that worked on the map environments.

Then people pointed out, that it is very difficult to tell friend from foe, so they choose the lighthouse method and placed lights around the character models.
Imho, not the best decision, but really helpful locating targets in sandstorms, or foilage and bushes.
To reduce the "light pollution" it helps to go prone.

@CloverDeuce 10x scope and my video editor at 3.5x. But I saved the 30 second snapshot because in game with just the 10x scope I was seeing enemies and hitting them.

    1. It does help me snipe, but it doesn't help the majority of the people in game that I am sniping at
    2. From 600m sure I am using a glint, but like I mentioned in the manifest bushes I am using a 4x so no glint. Just a glowstick beaming. Also your PTFO argument is funny because believe it or not video games are made for people to have fun. Grow up
    3. Reduced visibility makes sense, 600m through a sandstorm not so much.
    4. The instance I had was roughly 30-50m.
