I think everyone should keep in mind DICE created the worst received FPS of the last generation that was abandoned after the first big content update.
It was crammed full of awful ideas and mechanics. From Attrition to MMG’s which literally only fired straight when prone in a game where players practically disappeared when lying down. The list goes on. We all know the issues the game had.
Based on that I’d say we should be very wary of drastically new mechanics in 2042.
- @BURGERKRIEG To be fair, it was mostly due to the asinine and unnecessary commentary and narrative elements that sunk that ship before it launched… the game itself, to include BF1, are mostly copy paste from Battlefront 2.
I do agree that caution is the best approach, but again, all we have to go on is a small, few second clip…- @carsono311 Yes it was a crazy time. I agree with you on the DNA of the modern BF games and it’s source. Unfortunately the gameplay of BFV wasn’t strong enough to change the narrative and it all went wrong.
I still play BFV (and BF1) there is fun to be had there if you just accept the state of the game as it was when they pulled the plug.
I think we all need the beta to see if they got it right this time. I mean if people get sniped by a player flying through the air like Spider-Man I think they’ll rage out and be on here complaining.
- @BURGERKRIEG To be 100% fair, nearly all WW2 era MMGs couldn't be fired from the hip without it spraying the entire side of an Iowan brick red barn IRL. Modern MMGs still only fire straight when prone, so I don't understand your logic in that regard.
I didn't mind BF1 and BF5. Some of the weapons were hit or miss, sure, however, if you're ultimately not having fun, why keep playing?
Also, a generation is 20 years, I know Hardline was bad but... Verant made that, not Dice, so don't blame them for that mess and I'm sure there were worse FPSs than Hardline in the last 20 years. Now, if you're referring to Battlefield generations, then you're quite wrong there. BFV had 3? Or was it 4 big content updates and went quite strong until they announced they were stopping production on it to put all effort towards 2042 and that was last May or June of 2020.

- @Trokey66 And that's the issue. Dice wants to stick with somewhat realistic gun play while keeping it arcadey. Hence the reason why sniper bullets keep their real world physics and velocity in game since way back when. If that wasn't the case, you wouldn't have to aim ahead of your target or above or below to gauge range, you'd just have to aim directly at your target, click face and gg, got your kill.
So my statement stands in regards to MMGs. I'm sorry but complaining that they shoot much more accurately from prone but not from hip fire or shoulder isn't going to last in any thread. Anyways, enough derailing this thread since it's about grappling hook memes and what ifs with the grappling hook, that's my fault.
