Not sure which region you are in but its worse in Oceania; half the time I try and load a match there will be 30 minutes of waiting and loading into multiple lobbies with only enough players to form Alpha squad. So I put down the controller and do something else.
Its totally stupid. At this rate the game will have a hundred players in 6 months because no one can be bothered dealing with the crappy match making.
They could fix this in a heart beat by adding in a server browser for AOW, listing "official" portal servers in the server browser, and enabling xp for custom portal servers.
Instantly the numbers of players would jump significantly, and the game would generate more money come time that skins go on sale.
However BF2042 shows Dice and EA have lost pretty much all sense of reason and would prefer to do things that actively reduce the player count.
It wouldn't surprise me if in a few months time they announce that the only new maps they will be making will be for the 2 people in the world playing the hazard zone game mode.
- @Jozso987 Let me know how the game is in March ill be back then....
Wish they would fix the audio problems in WW3 thats a nice lil Battlefield 3.5 game - @Jozso987 This is why I think the turn xp off for bots excuse is really dumb. You wouldn’t be getting xp for most of your gameplay.
- @Flavin913 Yes, that game looks really promising!
@Jozso987 Out of interest what country are you in (I'm Scotland)? I've been trying out different servers just to see how busy they are, just connected to a new york server and at 07.00 (their time) in breakthrough 64 there was about 8 bots in total, not sure if that changed as the game progressed. I'm on PS5 with crossplay off

This issue seems to be very 'regional'.
Now this is just a thought.....
There have been many, many complaints about 'out of area' players going back years and covering all Battlefield games that I can remember. In light of this, is it not possible that matchmaking is deliberately keeping you 'in region'?
Depending on their size, some regions may be sparsly populated relatively speaking so it may stand to reason that full 'human' games are harder to come by.
This may be a case of "be careful what you wish for".
@Trokey66 Yeah this is what I was thinking. After trying the New York server I move over to Millan Italy and breakthrough 64 was very quiet with a lot of bots making up teams and they weren't even full teams at peak times. I still had PS5 crossplay off though.
@Trokey66 Not really since the lag in some games is not EU based lol. People on resetera saying there is a bug with crossplay off when it comes to MM.
Or you have to account for 70% leaving on Steam the most popular store front lets not kid around with Origins numbers as if they where high EA wouldn't put games back on Steam. Xbox the game is 33/50 in US most played after sales... 28/50 in UK. Not sure how to tell PS4/5 population though.

@1Hairy-GorillaHow can you tell 'where the lag is coming from'?
Although lowering, population numbers are still in 5 figures globally mostly so getting 128 players in a server should at least be probable most of the time, especially around peak times.
If however, players are 'region locked' then that could explain things, especially away from peak times.
It could be a bug but it doesn't seem to affect UK PS5 servers as I have not had any issues and the appearance of bots has been remarkably limited. There are plenty of possible reasons for this long before we get to 'but the game is dead'.
