An extreme example....
Boris A and Boris B both went to Boris school.
When the No Pat War kicked off, Boris A went with the Russians because he agreed with their Socialist ideals, Boris B went to America because they paid more. As they both went to the same Boris school, they look the same.
Again, BFV is the only Battlefield that achieved a level of customisation that addresses such issues but was not well received by the 'community'.
Making Battlefield into this hero shooter was a mistake as I attempted to mention in the post
Between factions, classes appeared differently. The Chinese engineer looked different than the U.S engineer. The Ottoman medic appeared differently than the U.S medic. I am not opposed to having a squad full of the same Ottoman medic if it means that a squad full of the same British medic appears differently.
What I should not be seeing is a squad full of Maria Falcks killing an identical squad of Maria Falcks because it makes no sense to the loose story that EA/DICE has made for 2042
If they wanted to use your example of extra-dimensional Boris, they should have mentioned this dimensional jumping is present in the setting of 2042. They did not, so I must assume that a battlefield of 128 Boris makes no sense
Especially with these heroes injected personalities.

@rippedwire01You're bringing factions into it when you dismissed them earlier!
BF1 had no customisation what so ever so the character models were absolutely identical on each side, I don't recall any complaints.
I see you have changed your thread title to unimaginative and the BF1 example is exactly that!
Fact is, we cannot have an infinite number of different character models, even expecting 128 is a bit of a stretch. Not sure what you mean by this 'dimensional' malarkey around my example, it wasn't supposed to literal, just a way of explaining why one of 10 different character models may be on different sides at the same time.
Again, only BFV has been really close to what you seem to want, given the level of customisation and the manner in which friend and foe are distinguishable in BF2042 though, it is not a massive issue.
I have probably shot at more friendlies or not shot at enemies in past games.
Also, expect more skins so the differences will multiply.
It is by no means perfect and could have been done differently, as I mentioned earlier faction locked skins could be a relatively simple solution but it is by no means a massive issue. In many ways, the same 'issue' can, in my opinion, be applied to previous games.
