Hit registration and Battlefield franchise.

I wonder are my only one suffering bad hit registration in BF2042? ( compared to other games). I've been gaming since castle wolfenstein / Original doom and own about all BF titles. I have decent rig ( 7800X3D, rtx 4070 ( overclocked) with loads of fast memory, fast ssd. I play using low latency fiber conn.

Back in the days battlefield games were fun to play. Now in many of the "lobbies/games" you join hit registration is not in level one can expect in year 2025. When i say bad hit registration; i mean if i shoot with aimed gun into certain position, players can run through the bullet path without getting any hits and they just one shot kill players. Their characted does not even show that they are pointing a gun at you.

In many cases you get shot meters after you have run behind corner. Your body can be recovered up to 10 meters behind 90 degrees corner. Or if you duck down you get still hit one second after beeing in cover for sure.

I wonder do developers realise, that gunplay is THE most important aspect when developing fps games? I guess they dont! Main points in this franchise has been around "flying squirrols" and "low-iq" character lines and charms & cosmetics nobody asked.

I dont even mention cheaters, because back in BF5 era my account got banned for a years from this forum complaining about huge number of cheaters in almost every round.

i wonder is EA / DICE taking any part in these discussions? Game has had broken netcode since day 1. Us talking about among players does not really bring any light to tunnel.

For ie. Delta force developers are active and listen to gaming community. Its not perfect either ( cheaters ), but at least they dont hide.

It's good to have discussions, even if it's seemingly just between players. The more a topic/thread gets replies, the better the chance it gets communicated with the Dev's by a community manager. Like "Hey, I see a lot of talk about xyx". I'm not sure if the developers are given allotted time, or choose on their own to scroll through the forums and see what's going on every so often, but imagine its on their radar. This topic has been brought up quite a lot, Dice are aware of this one.

So far from the leaks, it sounds like there's a couple of things that should help a bit, but will not solve the problem entirely.

    1. 60 hz Servers. Player positions should be more accurate.
    2. 64 Players. Having 128 players on the field means they had to mess around a lot with hit reg to get it to feel acceptable, but not great. Less stress on the servers as well, depending if they use that new overhead on other calculations, like destruction.
    3. Slower player movement. The maximum speed wasn't really the problem for me, but more so how players can move so abruptly, like they lack momentum. Which is something Dice has always played around with since BF3. Personally, I think 2042 has the best feeling movement out of the entire franchise, however, tracking enemies with seemingly impossible movement kills it. I also don't think you should be able to side skip, bunny hop, and get consistent head shots mid air. So I hope they keep what feels good, but clean it up, and add maybe a big of momentum to the characters, or something.

The thing that makes me the most nervous, is they keep Crossplay on by default. I haven't played a single game with Crossplay where the two different platforms felt like they were perfectly synced in the same server. I just don't think it works.

2042 was broken from the start, but it was deeply baked into the game, to a point I doubt they could change without just completely overhauling the game. Like I've mentioned before, 128 players requires a lot of computing power, you have to give up something somewhere else to get that. 128 players will never feel as tight of game play as 64 players with 60 hz servers. It was a cool idea, and it's good to take risks, but wasn't the move in the end.

has any of you been able to try BF6 yet? Did they use same poor game engine or did they hire real engineers this time?

"Netcode" is the real skill for the Devs, and this team just didn't have the experience of the previous Devs who pretty  much sorted the problem after the community spent a long time assisting- call out to 'Battle(non)sense' who did amazing work there.

They probably fired the Devs and hired an AI which won't do any better, but will be able to give you a recipe 😉

  • I've had practically 0 issues on PS5 with a wired connection so long as I stay in my region. Especially for PC players, there's gotta be something behind the scenes they haven't tweaked yet

i see this forum quite useless; EA techs ( if they even existed) dont partisipate any discussions.

Whole franchise has been quite wasted; game was broken in release, is still poor in big majority of aspects; gunplay, maps. One thing i really dont understand is the hit registration; they made fps -shooter, which has variable hit registration. Its not nearly constant.

If you play lets say 8 hours a day, you find one match where hit registration is working properly. Most of the times there are players who warp around, hit others from dead angles and behind corners etc.

For a old fart like me these game prices are not a big deal. I would pay double or triple price for a good quality game. I dont care.  I guess EA / DICE just dont have the capability to meet this goal.

Not so surprising with the increased VPN usage, and that cheat developers often recommend or require users to use a VPN to hide their real IP address, avoid detection, and reduce the risk of bans (especially IP or HWID bans). Some even bundle VPN services with their cheats.

However, using a VPN can increase latency and cause unstable connections, which negatively impacts hit registration and responsiveness in fast-paced FPS games. Although a VPN might show a lower "apparent ping," the actual delay (due to extra routing) can lead to input lag, missed shots, or delayed enemy movement.

In short: VPNs are used for protection, not performance – and often hurt gameplay quality.

  • They EA cheeped out with low tic servers if you don't get the base networking right these things are going to happen.

A poor experience in an FPS game isn't always due to a low tickrate server — high latency to the server also plays a major role. For example, using a VPN can add extra delay to your connection, making hit registration and movement feel worse, regardless of the server's tickrate.

  • thats whay low tickrate does to a game, hell even in the server browser for bf4 they were 244hz servers, then WTH happend and why we dont have those
