He is the WORST specialist in the game. His turret does NOTHING. His current specialist trait should be integrated to his kit and give Boris a different specialist trait maybe let him control his turret from a close distance? Also give him different turrets to choose from. One for infantry, one for anti-air and one for ground vehicles. They can deploy two of them much like Irish.
Might as well use Crawford if you want to control turrets at close range. It has an auto spot feature, continues to work after becomming downed, and is buffed when there are other Boris around (plus he has some of the best skins in the same); I think he's in a fine spot
Have you tried motivating the turret by shouting Boris's voice lines at it? I think the turret wants to do well, but just needs a little encouragement.

Feel like if his turret (and also the ranger) gives you kills, then they should count as a death for you if they are destroyed and a kill for the person who destroyed them.
The shots should be less effective as it fires, either through recoil/spread so it is less accurate or through overheating so it fires less.
And yeah give it different ammo or modes, like you said anti-infantry, anti-armor and anti-air.
