I kind of like where they are going with this to be honest. I've owned every BF title (minus hardline) and my favs were 1942, BC2, & BF2. Yes, it's a bug fest that is terribly unbalanced with no rewards for squad play. What did everyone expect EA & Dice to do? They have already released 2 WW2 versions in 1942 & BFV, Vietnam, WW1, 4 modern day titles with BC2, BF2, BF3 and BF4, 1 futuristic 2142.
Why not just release expansion packs for BF4? I think they were do for a change which is the evolution of gaming. The problem lies in the support after release and instead of putting a bunch of resources on this to iron out the bugs they're already on to the next big one leaving minimal resources to work on the many issues this game currently has. I'd be happy if I didn't have to reset my video settings every time I start up the game and it didn't take me 35 hits to kill an enemy.
The specialists are more fun than the traditional class system and like BF4 recon can now carry close combat weapons and now medics can carry anti-tank weapons. I do wish they would sprinkle in some of the traditional BF items like ammo stations, sucks running around trying to see if anyone is playing ammo guy. Maybe Dice can start making the weekly challenges to be ammo guy for a week?
I say give it time and see if they are willing to build on this or does it disappear for the next "big thing"?
