Hi @DaizerNation ,All good a fair points you bring up there!
From what I have observed and seen confirmed by DICE and the reveals we have so far, then these would be my commets to each point that you raise:
1. There is no clarity on backwards compatibility! I don't know if I need to purchase a different game to play with my Xbox 1 friends! From the pre-orders it seems that this is the case! I need to buy the 90$ game just to be able to have the XSX & Xbox 1 game? Rip-off much?
That is not how it is being promoted in the pre-order description that I see for my PlayStation world. On the contrary. The two GOLD and ULTIMATE EDITIONS both give access to the cross gen gameplay for the BF2042 game. I see that it is the same also for the Xbox world. So but this and you will be able to play in both.
2. Bots that can't be disabled! This shows that DICE don't really believe the base game will have a lot of players or be successful! Also that can potentially imply no cross play! With cross play you will have enough players for sure!
If bots can be disabled or not has not yet been formally confirmed. (As haven't community run servers either btw...) But we also have to recognize a large part of the player community have asked for the bot features, aka to help making gameplay possible for players with no internet, or in regions where they have less servers/players. It not like just black or white here, cant satisfy one group without apparently disgruntling another. So lets see first what it really means with those AI bots. Maybe they are just in some game modes? Maybe they are just on some maps? Maybe we even get the option to search for servers where they are disabled? Maybe the rented server owners can disable them? All fair options I think, so lets hope that EA have considered these. I definitely do not see this as a sign that EA are not sure on the game's success in rolling it out to millions of gamers.
3. Battlepass is just not clear, what are the perks? Do I get in game coin? If I buy 1 battle pass can I have enough coin to buy the one after (like APEX LEGENDS & Fortnight)? If so then why do I need to pay a premium for year 1 battlepass.
What you get from the battlepass, is access to the first 4 seasons of the game and the 'specialists' each of these brings to the game. I see it more as like the DLC packs that you purchased in previous BF games. Which gave you access to more maps/weapons types that you can unlock and use in the game across all seasons/maps that you have purchased so far. So I would directly compare it to the BF4 Premium, which you may remember was like a pre-purchase of all the coming DLCs in the game. Because you with the GOLD and ULTIMATE editions already pre-purchase the first 4 battlepasses. Whereof the first battlepass is containing access to the first 4 seasons and the first 4 specialists.
I definitely preferred the BF4 Premium Edition versus buying the base program, and subsequent each individual DLC as they released. But yeah, it takes a bit of blind faith. But hey, from what we have seen so far, the BF2042 looks like what we all have been waiting for: The real successor to BF4! So I have taken the leap. 😊

From what I have observed and
@CyberDyme It does help a lot. Thank you.
Just one note: the 60$ game on Xbox mentions that it includes only compatible with XSX.
And as for the battlepass I thought that all maps/specialist will be free for everyone right?
I still can't decide if the Battlepass is worth it. I bought APEX battlepass once and I always put in the hours so I can have enough coin for the next one without needing to pay again.
Thanks again 🙂

Yes @DaizerNation ,
As I wrote, then it is only the GOLD and ULTIMATE EDITIONS that contains the full cross-gen package for you!
While the cheapest baseline version that you refer to there does not. So the cheap baseline version will only be valid for the specific console that you bought it for.
You can clearly compare and observe this when checking on the Xbox store:
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/battlefield-2042
From what I understand then all maps will be available to all. But the (incl future) specialists are belonging to each of the battlepass/seasons that will be released going forward. This is also obvious when looking at the license options for sale now: "Year 1 Pass: 4 New Specialists (1 per Season), 4 Battle Passes (1 per Season)".
When buying the GOLD or the ULTIMATE editions, then you get already the pass to the first four seasons expected to be released during year 1. And you can clearly see that the specialists are each connected as one new Specialist for each season. I would as minimum expect that EA have planned 4 years out, so we will see 16 specialists being released going forward. Expect therefore also some specific season/year passes to coming out as 'add-ons' gong forward. (I am not judging if this is an acceptable 'pay to win' model or not. But yes, it will add to total price if wanting them all).
- Trokey664 years agoSeasoned Ace@CyberDyme I think it is worth clarifying that all in game 'hardware' will be free to all ie, the Specialists themselves are at no additional cost. It is only extra cosmetic items that are 'exclusive' to paid Battlepasses.

I cannot say that I am 100% absolute certain, as its also contradicting to what some EA reps shared like 6 months back. But reallity now is what they present to the public and what is written on the 3 different license options they are promoting in all online stores now for pre-ordering: So the same setup/conditions for all 3 platform, PC, xbox and playstation. And we have the standard baseline edition (or actually two of them) one for the old gen consoles and one for the new gen consoles. The old console version is approx $10 cheaper than the new gen version. (64 players vs 128 players, is the EA justification for that...?)
Next you have the GOLD EDITION and the ULTIMATE EDITION.
And for these 'higher end' editions they clearly write more is contained by default, beyond the base game, which is how they refer to it for the cheapest edition license:
So from here, it is obvious that the Specialists are linked to the seasons, and thereby to the battlepasses that you need to buy for access to each season that you want to take part in. So yes, you get access to all the baseline play with the baseline edition of the game pack. But it strongly hints towards that you one way or the other need to buy the Battle Passes to get access to the Specialists!
Maybe you can grind your way to qualify for those specialist someway in the game? I dont know, as its not been shared yet by EA how this really works in the new game.
But their monetization model here does not hint towards that being so.
One might say the same when looking back at Gold, Silver and Bronze battlepacks in BF4? Like who would want to pay for any of those, but still some do. Likewise with the Assault-, Support, Engineer- or Recon- kits. While most veterans we didnt even care much to open them as we earned them through the gameplay alone.
The judge is still out on the BF2042 payment models I think, until we get more proper details from EA on the connected game components/mechanics...?
Personally I would prefer a Premium one time payment and then be done with it. And definitely no pay-to-win schemes. But that is maybe too much to ask for in these modern times???
- 4 years ago@DaizerNation One thing you need to understand is, Apex Legends is a free to play game from the get go and a different company that develops it. No one has to buy it to play. The battle pass and subsequently those that play it and earn whatever the currency is, in it, that they use to unlock the next battle pass is technically money still being generated towards their game to continue developing it.
Like someone previously mentioned above, the "battle pass" for 2042 will be more like the BF4 Premium Edition rather than a battle pass. And Dice even said that the battle pass will be exactly like BFV's. All skins. Dice also said the game will be like BFV, cross platform multiplayer, kind of like how CoD:MW and such is. PC/PS/XB players all being able to play together.- 4 years ago

Any articles or videos to confirm this? Thanks again 🙂
