@VBALL_MVPImo not so much fun numbers. One of the biggest gaming platforms. And they have high promotion/commercials when new game releases. Exact numbers are a bit fun yes but conclusions can be made.
Steam is like less than 20% of the PC base though, many may have figured out they didn't have to log into Steam and instead went straight through Origin or EpicGames Store. Since we don't have server player count stats across all platforms it is literally impossible to determine if there is a max exodus or not. Don't be fooled by the loud complainers here with their multiple accounts, the forums actually is the minority. It only consists of a very small fraction of the player base voicing their opinions. The majority don't join forums or disscusion boards to share their opinion; they either silently play the game or move onto a different game.
Also it is fair to note there was a huge dip in BF4 at launch as well due to its game breaking issues. After the major patch fixes, and DLC launch, player base increased again. Heck BF4 population spiked when BF2042 was close to launch, based on that one could make a conclusion that more people started buying BF4 again or that people enjoyed BF4 suddenly over BFV but you and I both no that wasn't the reason behind the spike.

@VBALL_MVPwhere did you pull that 20%? And bf4 spiked because of modern era. Even I played bf4 after knowing 2042 is modern era.Yes we know that's why BF4 spiked, but nice can take the numbers and make my own narrative, just like those articles makingba big deal of the drop in steam players. There have been articles finally acknowledging that only a percentage of PC players run BF through steam. One "estimated" how much, again I take the percentage as a grain of salt, the point is that it is not an accurate evaluation if one ignores the 2 other ways to access the game on PC.

PC population was 10% of the player base.
So if we use the last known stats from the first few months of release of BF1 we can speculate that steam doesn't even account for 10% of the playerbase.
We can also assume that PC players are also using Origin which supports the argument that Steam accounts for less than 10% of the playerbase.
So to sum up, using Steam numbers in your argument is not helping your argument.
So in conclusion please refute my opinion that Steam is not in any way representive of the overall online playerbase.

"Battlefield 2042 Player Count Dropping on Steam
It seems that Battlefield 2042 is continuing to drop in player count on Steam for PC. And while not all users will be playing on the platform, it’s sure to be representative of the overall player response to the game." - 5 years ago
This might be a refresher about all the other bad launches and drop in player base in the beginning. Even after all of that people call some of the titles listed the "best of battlefield"

- Thursdayz_Child5 years agoRising Rookie@Man_iLoveFishing you seem to be insinuating that for some reason steam players are the only ones that dislike the game and that the whims of players on one platform.... despite the fact that they are all playing the exact same game with the exact same faults.... is in no way indicative of the games favorability on other platforms...

@Thursdayz_Child Exactly, if one of the biggest platforms on pc player count drops, why wouldn't others drop? Because on origin game feels somehow better, or or on console? It's not about accurate count, more about the point. Steam is just an example. Don't think other platforms are somehow "happier".

Agree, it would be strange if the attitude towards BF2042 were to be different on stream than other platforms. It is probably quite representative.
