No, not at all. Not even close.
Firestorm didn't do so well and you think they'd risk the franchise on that?!
The beta was a small slice of the final game. It definitely felt like a BF game though.

Did it aye? A bf game with no classes is not a bf game at all.
- 4 years ago@TAYTER-GUN Why? Who defines what is and is not a bf game? Why are classes set in stone? The classes that has changed definition in every new installment of the series. For me, the core of bf is freedom to play in lotsa different ways. Classes gave me choices. Now I have even more freedom to define my own class and play style. I honestly don’t see how this is bad.

@mesterKG The community defines what is and is not a bf game. The class system has been in place since Battlefield 1942. Your freedom to play however you want with this new system betrays sensibility, and trashes team play. Med kits and ammo boxes are now rare to non existent and I don't know who to request these things from if needed. I can't tell if a sniper has a rocket on them if I'm in a tank, etc. etc.

@0_oRage"In other news, the theory that #Battlefield2042 started as a Battle Royale is true, although I'm not sure how far in development it was changed to a more "traditional" Battlefield.
The inspiration from CoD was there, but Apex was a BIG inspiration."Quote was from my goldfish.
Many games change direction, I don't blame EA or DICE for the BR thing, Warzone tops out at 150 000 000 players, you'd be hounded by investors to chase those same numbers, it's insane. They should pivot instead towards Tarkov-esque systems, it's a sleeper monster.
- 4 years agoHow does it feel to you? For me, it feels like it was designed to be a BR game first. We discussed this before this rumor surfaced. Many said it feels off. Portal is the mode that is to keep us happy supposedly, but what do we really know about it. Maybe some gameplay but first Hazard Zone today right? Priorities for EA

Agreed @ghinavirus ,
I expect that we will see tomorrow in the reveal that Hazard Zone will be a squad based Battle Royal mode!
And I think that was one of the original key priorities for the BF2042 game plan, to excel in this area and promote it heavily. Especially where the specialists will be of high importance and where the micro transactions will cater to the player base who is willing to keep spending money on cosmetics. EA was left in the dust by their competitors, when that hype took off few years back.
I think where the EA marketing team made a huge miscalculation is that the core of the old Battlefield vets do care less about cosmetics and more about the teamplay, the community camaraderie and the classic Battlefield game mechanics and experience you get from that immersion!
So essentially they have dropped the vast majority of their old franchise fans behind, as its not COD and its not BattleRoyal that we care much about...
Its Battlefield we care about and the things that made Battlefield a special gaming experience, which none of the other game franchises out there could provide!

@0_oRageTBH, I have no idea if it was intended as a BR only, but I am pretty sure that there has been some heavy pressure from crosseyed investors - with little to no gaming experience - to get a piece of the cod cake. Might not been what the designers and devs were envisioning, and they might have gotten coerced into doing something they were not planning, then managed to negotiate a way out of it. I am pretty sure that there is still heavy pressure on monetization, but hopefully the dev teams get to do what they do best and realize their visions to some extent, and let that open for ways to monetize on the free products that are attached.
