It's confirmed that bots are not coming for offline modes

Can you please explain DICE, why is there no offline modes for bots?

Thank you!

  • @Player55 My guess is progression since 2042 is multiplayer only and in multiplayer (even in solo) you must be connected to DICE's stats servers to record progression. The only alternative would be to not have any progression in solo mode.
  • @Player55 Gotta agree. I don't get this "always online" fascination. Especially given the serious server problems a lot of games have had recently. But this might just be for launch. Battlefront 2 didn't have a legit offline Instant Action mode until Felucia arrived, and the co-op was added to offline in the months after. So DICE may add it later.
  • @GRiPSViGiL I'm still playing Quake I and that was released 25 years ago. There are still excellent maps made by the community that far exceed what was possible back then.

Games are not meant to have an expiration date. Good games, like good music records get to live on forever.

What companies like EA are doing, infesting everything with "always online" crapware (solely for profit and shoving microtransactions further down our throats) is deeply anti-consumer.

No company should have the right to enforce on you, until when you can play a game you purchased.

I know, I know the insidious thing is that nowadays you don't purchase a copy of the game you purchase a limited license to play the game that can expire at their discretion. Scummy behavior as expected.

This is one of the many reasons why "always online" is [CM - removed] and will forever (until the heat death of the universe) be nothing more than [CM - removed] .

    @Strelok_1284 Great points!

I am not that concerned about how things are with owning games and what not. I never play single players games as they bore me to death. I only play online multiplayer games, and always the latest versions.

So I don't see EA as the evil capitalistic entity you seem to in this case but I do think there is validity to what you are saying for a lot of people.
  • I understand your point. You move on when there's something new or more interesting to play.

I  do that as well, but I also treat my games as being part of a collection. I don't like the idea of a kill switch at the heart of a game.

The thing is, EA had a chance to satisfy both types of customer. They did that in and excellent manner with Star Wars Battlefront. It has excellent support for offline play besides the MP component.

I was hoping BF 2042 would be the same.  Finally a chance to show greedy Activision how it's still possible not to lock your user base out of the game during the launch window that is always plagued with overcrowded servers.

Such a shame we're not getting any sort of offline play. ☹️

    Guess I was being naïve.

  • @Player55 I agree, we need to find out the reason why they did not add it.
Almost 60 percent of Battlefield players only play for the fact that in the 00s it became famous with the offline mode with bots (Conquest With Bots)
