Jets Have Balance Issues

I've gotten Mastery Level 2 on each jet in Battlefield 2042, so I've noticed some glaring issues that need fixing. I must say though, that I'm actually optimistic about them getting fixed as long as DICE works towards it. I'll try and keep it short and to the point.

1. The Cannons Are Too Difficult to Use

It seems as though the bullets are going exactly where I'm not aiming. Perhaps the bullets are too slow, or the gun is misaligned with the reticle, or both. Either way, something has gone terribly wrong with the cannons in this game, and it's hard to even describe.

2. Weapons

The AGMs function well, but should not be the only Air-to-Ground option for jets, and I doubt they were ever intended to be. Let's get JDAMs in the mix at least. Radar missiles are a feature that shouldn't even be necessary if you fix cannons, and AA don't need them. These weapons are a negative parasite in BF4 air gameplay to this day.

3. The Air Radar Lacks Enough Range

I think it's that simple. Whether it's the radar not remaining consistent or lacking enough range, I think bringing back BF4 radar with more information like relative altitude would suffice.

4. Balance Between the Jets

This is actually the main issue and few people talk about it. The SU-57 turns faster, while the F-35 has VTOL. This is not balance; it's a mess. I'm aware that some people like VTOL, but if it means that air combat and general balance between the jets stays ruined like it is, we should consider nerfing or removing it. Not only does VTOL give the F-35 unwarranted ability to kill infantry, but it can also be used mid dogfight, which is completely absurd, and an insult to air combat in any context. VTOL as a feature overcomplicates balance in ways that are unnecessary. It's somewhat excusable with the transports, but not with jets. Just make the jets function identically between the factions like most vehicles do. Please?

  • @MZMX7I have Tier 1 (Mastery 40 I guess?) for both jets at this point and your points are mostly accurate across the entire jet experience at all skill levels. I will comment below:

    1. Yes, the cannons are not well aligned to the reticle and they have a large spread, which naturally increases at range. This behavior can be learned, however it does make them much harder to use on ground targets, especially infantry (which I am fine with).

    2. The AGMs used to function well, but they are currently bugged since the latest update. Overall, they definitely expand your target selection and I would consider them the current "meta" loadout.  I like the AMRAAM missile option and think it provides a good option for dealing with other aircraft. Agreed that we need more options though.

    3. Yep, air radar sucks. Either fix it or cut it.

    4. I generally agree, but there must be some way to differentiate and create some distinctiveness between these aircraft.

I love the SU-57. It's the better performing aircraft for sure and I eventually learned it was unbeatable in the air if you are maintaining situational awareness. The VTOL on the F-35 is the only means to level the field without making them identical... but it is insufficient. I am not sure what the fix should be here or if there really needs to be a change honestly.  If the cannons are changed, then this will need to be revisited for sure...

  • I don't know what platform you play on but on Xbox any time i try going for a strafe and I start to slow down it feels like the nose just falls down making aiming a lot harder cause i have to coastally hold my analog stick down. this is on both jets that it happens never had this problem with the other battlefields.

  • Here's my input on these issues:

    1.  Remove the spread increase, increase the bullet velocity, and increase damage for the 30mm.  It's embarrassing how little damage it does to anything, and it only gets worse the longer you try to shoot.  The velocity increase is needed to be more effective fighting helis, since they can dodge rounds so easily right now.

    2.  Fighter jets used to have rockets in BF3, but that was imbalanced against AA.  Dumb bombs could be good if they let you do it in 3rd person, as it was very clunky in BF4 IMO.

    3.  Being able to resize the minimap would also help with this.  Yet another feature lost for no good reason.

    4.  Haven't had many dogfights, so I can't really comment on this.  But the heli flight ceilings need to be lowered like they were in past BFs.  Jets need the verticality to counter the helis maneuverability, but having a chopper hover at the altitude where your jet turns to molasses means you can only attack from below, giving them a completely unneeded advantage.  Plus it would also reduce the 1 man gunner spraying from outside AA range.

  • Anyway, balance between US and RU is the most serious issue for me. VTOL is not equivalent to mobility.

Also curious about this. By default, AGMs are only capable to lock on ground vehicles. But with Soflam support, you can also go for air targets again. The only question here is, is this intended or not. But since the Carl Gustaf works the same way with Soflam, my guess is, that´s intended.

I 100% agree. This needs to be fixed, because as it currently stands, there is no respectable jet combat in 2042 All-Out Warfare. The two jets should at least be able to turn as fast as each other, without VTOL in the mix. Once that's done, we can work from there.

@rainkloud Sorry for the delay in response. I have quit this game and did not check back.

Before Update 2, the AGMs would lock onto target and would hit and damage 100% of the time unless countered or the pilot flew past the locked target as they were fired.

Since the update, the AGMs will inexplicably miss the locked target at about a 30-40% rate even if countermeasures are not deployed. The only way around it that I think worked was to maintain my head-on aspect to the target through locking, firing, and hitting, which was not necessary before.

To me, that’s a bug, but it could be a design change that was included and not mentioned… not sure really.
