Joystick support now in the settings?

I have been away from BF2042 for a while now, and last time i played there were no settings for this. But i see now in the settings you can map controls for a joystick? Like it actually has joystick controls now and i know for sure it didnt used to. Anyone know when this was added and Does this feature actually work or no? I dont have a Joystick/hotas yet but ive been shopping around for one and curious if ill actually be able to play it on this game and potentially battlefield 6 as well..
