@ThaDruStaAll map DLC was free in BF1 and 5 as these companies are now all very aware that paid DLC maps just split the community. So worry not I can't see them going backwards in 2042.
The season passes will likely just give cosmetic items like most other season passes and maybe different operators (but not with new skills) so again nothing to worry about unless you really like cosmetics.

@HankBizzleInteresting I bought the dlc for bf1 and didn't realize that. Well I didn't really play bf1 that much. I let my cousins just have at it playing that game. They always sniped almost 100 percent of the time. As for bf5 I was like meh because of the story line decisions. Felt that truth wasn't given justice is all. Thanks for letting me know this. Perhaps I don't have to worry so much about this then. Just you know.

@ThaDruStaWell luckily you don't have to worry about splitting the playerbase that way this time because they have confirmed that the maps and other stuff that effects gameplay will be FREE 🙂
Only the cosmetics and stuff like that will have to be paid for.

It seems like more than just cosmetics, also maps, weapons and vehicles. It looks like old time DLC
DICE’s upcoming live-service Battlefield game, will reportedly feature a slew of post-launch content through its season pass including a variety of new maps, specialist classes, weapons, and vehicles as well as cosmetics- 5 years ago@SirBobdk I still don't imagine the maps will be paid DLC, like most games with a season pass, certain things in the season pass are free to all and some are 'premium pass' content. Can't see them going backwards on maps being free to all. The player base in this game is already going to be so broken up by all the different game modes they can't risk breaking it up even more!

@HankBizzle
Guess we just have to wait and see. We also have not been told what the price will be for the season pass, as far as I know.

@HankBizzle The "split the community" argument was always a red herring. I want the community split because "bad actors" don't buy premium for their accounts so they're isolated to vanilla servers. Also game modes like CQ or Rush and the core/hard core settings split the community too but that's not a bad thing. Portal will definitely split the community in 2042 since there's a sizable chunk of the community like myself who don't any anything to do with specialists so I'm going to spend all of my time playing the new and old maps with actual Battlefield classes.
I'll always prefer paying to get specific expansion packs and non-timed assignments over the horrible live service experience that loves to nickle and dime players that has infested modern gaming. Also with Live Service they can pull support at any time like they did with BF5. If Hardline had a live service the players who continued to play would never had received any expansion packs.
