I partially agree with the initial statement. I had a lot of fun in BF2042 despite the glitches, lags, etc. But EA Dice must change a lot, especially for us console (I'm on Xbox) players:
- Console-only cross-play between PS5 and Xbox Series S/X
- No cross-play enforcement for Xbox players (the current implementation is a joke and a slap in the face for all Xbox players)
- Built-in chat; you cannot just easily use Discord etc. on console (I think especially Xbox after Playstation announced the partnership with Discord)
Of course, then we have all the technical issues such as the network lags, glitches, bad animations, etc. But, I believe Battlefield 2042 has sooo much more potential than CoD Warzone!

Some issues in no particular order...
- Far too many scenes of animations, cut scenes, load scenes, map scenes, scene scenes, before and after you can deploy into a game.
- Choosing a spawn point accurately with the controller stick is difficult. Have to use up/ down on D-Pad to work you're way through.
- Having a load your weapon animation when you spawn renders you useless for a second or 2.
- Loss of sprint during gameplay making it feel like you're crouched for seconds or until you're dead.
- Being pushed 10 feet in front of you by an invisible force.
- Weapon attachments not showing
- Hit registry very poor. ( Video clips for proof )
- Sound ( miles away from the pin point accuracy and volume of BFV on enemy footsteps whilst your squads are very loud. Vehicles whisper whilst driving or flying next to you )
- Foliage look beautiful - buildings are plain and bland. Gun fights in buildings can take you away from the frustration of being destroyed by aircraft or tanks outside but any kind of building is becoming less and less in Battlefield, more so here than ever.
- Far too much open land without any points of interest. Possible need of more capture points in between on Conquest?
- A good half of the Specialists aren't that useful.
- No information on if anyone is around to revive you. Worked very well on BFV.
- Hazard Zone is bland. Lacks jeopardy, fun or interest.
- Just Conquest and Breakthrough only in 2042?
- The menu system is clunky and not streamlined.
- Sliding was better in the beta. The running speed a tad too slow.
- Weapon attachment stats/ info randomly disappears.
- Never, ever was there an issue with the traditional scoreboard.
- Random events like a tornado or sandstorm feel novelty at best.
- Weapon choice limited.
- You can crawl when downed in Hazard Zone, couldn't it be implemented in other modes?
- M5 projectiles are slow and weak.
- Helicopters Hovercrafts are very powerful. You wouldn't know on many occasion if one was sat on your head until rockets blast down upon you killing you.
- Infantry based modes ( not Portal ) should of been included.
- Map design on most are are uninteresting at best. Doha for example, mostly sand dunes but at the E capture points we have something of interest in skyscrapers, but not enough.
- Map rotation doesn't exist as I have played the map in India about 40 time now and the other ones once or twice.
- You need a BR otherwise this will lose any longevity it has soon.
...I really want to love this. After putting in 1400 hours on BFV and hoping this was going to give me another 1400. Its early days but overall it feels like a mess, efforts not concentrated on 2042 and time wasted on dated remasters.

I'm going to give it up - at least for now. I'll have a look again after the full release and a day one patch. Who knows, they might have improved it to a point where it's not so irritating and unenjoyable. It could possibly evolve into something good but they have their work cut out for them.
But as it stands, it's absolutely not something I want to spend my free time on. Which is pretty sad, BF is the one franchise I've stuck with in the past 16 years since BF2. When I think of the high points of the series and compare it to what they've served up this time, it's such a disappointment.
It reeks of a development driven by marketing and following trends. Lots of touted standout "features" but core basic battlefield-y stuff just not done right. Maybe over time, they've lost too many of the key people who knew what a battlefield game should be, I don't know. But this ain't it.

@FatherDed I totally agree with every word, spending time trying to force yourself to enjoy something which is so fundamentally flawed is just not fun.
It is indeed a far cry from the good old days. They are poorly designed maps and the graphics at times are so bland and cartoonish they look like something from years back.!!

Agree with pretty much everything here.
Going to chime in with a few of mine.
MAPSTraditionally I've found most BF games have good maps, they had distinct personality and were well designed to feel open and expansive, allowing you multiple routes whilst funnelling the action. BF2042 maps just feel like bland expanses where you're almost constantly exposed from long distances which reduces tense smaller scale stand-offs and eliminates battles having a real and dynamic front line.
I thought the larger battles would be a good thing but because of the map issues everything just feels like a cluster F rather than a battle. I think perhaps they've missed the sweet spot going this big and I think for this to work they either need to re-do all of the maps and/or bring back the commander mode.
CHARACTERSI really don't like how you can't create your own character anymore and instead have to have a 'specialist'. It means for most players you can't play as someone that represents you and if you can find someone that represents you there is a good chance that their abilities don't match your playstyle.
It's also immersion breaking, you can have 128 player battles but only 10 characters so you're going to see lots of people that look identical to you not just on your own team but on the opposing team (something that really doesn't help with quickly identification).
Traditionally BF games have allowed you to equip faction specific and relatively accurate uniforms and gear, allowing you to customise your character somewhat whilst keeping them identifiable. This also means you can't pick uniforms that are appropriate to the map environment, that is unless you find a specialist you like that has an appropriate uniform that you have unlocked.
This all just feels like a step back.MENUS/UI
Classic "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". Who designed this and thought it was an intuitive and attractive design? They've tried too hard to force the branding of the game into the UI and the mistake they have made is one that lots of people make when designing future displays, in the future things should be cleaner and more intuitive. It sort of feels like they've tried to mix bad sci-fi and Call of Duty.- Chris56264 years agoRising Adventurer
Dice have some very talented people working for them so I do have faith in their ability to fix what is wrong with the game but I don't think they will because pretty much all of the big gripes that people seem to be calling out aren't bugs (although there are plenty of them) they are design decisions, THIS is the Battlefield game that the publisher and developers chose to make, I can't seem them going back to the drawing board and changing it to what we want.
