I honestly feel like this should have been a new IP. Had they not put the battlefield name on this, then im sure they could have sold this without many complaints.
People have certain expectations to anything with the Battlefield name on it. Its kind of the same story as the latest Ghost Recons tbh
The main thing stopping me enjoying the game is the general "clunkiness" of everything - in terms of movement and gunplay. There's also issues with frame rates. And then there's poor balancing (especially with vehicles). The bullet spread. The controller tuning. etc etc So, from my perspective at least, the main problems are not things changed/added/removed by design, it's basic things unfinished and unpolished.
There are things done by design which I don't like at all. The horrible sound. The vast empty spaces. Specialists and the cheesy one liners. etc.
I feel that the central thing that's stopping me enjoying it is that it feels almost random who comes out on top in any given engagement. Like who just happens to get a couple of shots on target through the clunkiness and randomness of it all.
And with the way maps feel like they lack any kind of flow, it feels almost impossible to predict where enemies will come from - that they can pop up at any time from any random direction. So that leaves the feeling that it's not down to paying tactically, trying to flank and use cover, it's just whoever happens to be looking in the right direction at the right time.
And the poor directionality of the sound removes a key stream of information about what s going on around you. You hear footsteps and all it tells you is that there is someone, somewhere in a few hundred yards of your position, no clue in what direction, how far or what direction they are going.
So when I get killed, it feels frustrating. And when I do get a kill, it doesn't feel satisfying or that I earned it, it feels like I just got lucky.

And as you say it is hard to get any concisitency as you can have a half decent round one time and get slaughtered the next. I tried a few rounds of Breakthrough and found it better in some ways, I felt I was part of a team rather than a lone wolf and it seemed to have more purpose.

@RayD_O1 Yep, exactly. But I can see a good game in there somewhere if they get to grips with all the various issues. It's just buried deep.
