Why is it that a MAV, meant as a transport vehicle, can decimate an MBT in a 1 on 1 engagement? Even with just one person firing the 50mm from the MAV and the tank using its APS to buy a little time,...

I highly doubt that an MBT with standard shells will lose a 1vs1 duel with a MAV.
If both of the vehicles have all their seats full and are equipped with anti vehicle stations, the MBT will still win.
MAV: 50mm autocanno + mortar
MBT: AP shell + ToW + Mortar.
No contest.
