Melee weapons tied to takedowns?!?

In my recent "What's coming soon to EA Play Pro" email, I could not help but notice some... interesting inclusions:

What is that at the bottom?!?

... I am very interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on this and its implications. I think it is clear now that certain melee weapons will include unique melee takedown animations... or maybe not?

What do you guys think?!?

Like it , hate it , or somewhere in between...?

@carsono311 Personally like the idea, always unique.. however i really hope most of them still include taking dogtag's.. always satisfying.

@nickmajic Agreed. I hope EA DICE have not done away with dogtags in favor of the player cards or whatever….

I am not sure how I feel about specific takedowns tied to melee weapons though… I think it feels a bit too COD like, but I also have not really seen it yet.

I wouldn't mind if 2042 kept the same system as previous games (Blade/Club/Heavy)

@carsono311 I don't mind/care too much, if it is going to be in third person anyway, as long as it is not a 15 second sequence of killer clown from outer space dropping in and taking the guy out.

@carsono311 It does look likely since it's not described as being just a weapon, and it'll be interesting to find out for definite.

Wouldn't mind that Dr. Hakim weapon charm Apex is getting either...

@carsono311 I assume, that it is only the takedown maneuver and that the hatchet is just the symbol for a melee takedown, since it appears very anachronistic to me.

@carsono311My biggest concern is that takedown work correctly, too many times in bf1 and bfv you go to grab someone from behind and you just poke em with the knife instead, really frustrating.

@R1ckyDaMan19 Some people mentioned, that there is a difference between pressing the melee button/key to holding the melee button/key. I try to confirm this after release.

@kregora I actually think it is a weapon as well... and yes, in Battlefield 2042 there is a melee attack is key press vs. melee takedown being a key hold.

I actually do not mind that gameplay / behavior, since it has separated those functions and the melee takedown range seems to be greatly reduced compared to recent games.

@carsono311 I don't like the idea at all. I should be able to choose the knife I want and the takedown I want seperately. Frankly I don't even like third person takedowns and would patch that right out if I was Kaiser for a day.

We also need dogtags to return, and their lack of being in the beta has me extremely concerned.
