Yea when I went back to bf5 I was surprised how well designed everything was, it's too bad that people disliked it's launch because I think it turned into the most perfected version of the battlefield formula to date. Obviously people love BC2, BF3 and BF1 for many reasons, but I think the reasons lots of people got into them was because they were SIMPLE and atmospheric. BF5 got just about everything right in the end, although I never liked the destiny style weapon modifications, but was fiddly. As someone who loves battlefield I remember being just SO overwhelmed with all the stuff I needed to do... all the unlocks and tweaks to systems and season content to catch up on... and in the end it stopped me from returning to the game after launch which is a shame.
After playing BF5 in 2021 I get this horrible feeling that all I really want is a reskin of that exact game in modern or future time period.... and EA will never let them do that because bf5 was a commercial failure. They might make this game passable but TBH the franchise feels "too far gone" atm. They tried making a REALLY team focused shooter and the community rejected it in it's entirety, then the lead devs behind the series left, then they took the entire game into a mobile/F2P/Generic hero shooter direction and the worst part is that underneath it all, it's not a very good game... the sound is wrong, the atmosphere sucks, the gunplay is passable, the maps aren't really well designed, the vehicles are okay, and I could go on and on but the point is that it's just .... not good.... even after it's all "fixed" which could take over a year.
Can you imagine how much of a success this game would have been if they had just literally lifted BF5's source code, reskinned everything 2042, and spent those two years working on portal?
