Mod tools for 2042?
I am Battlefield veteran, been playing BF since 1942. Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 were amazing games, I played thousands of hours in either game. But to me the best part about those games were...
I too lament the loss of mod tools and like others have said I doubt we'll see them due to the complexity of the engine and mechanics and the fact that they would have to put a lot of work into the tools with very little in the way of payoff given that most of their revenue comes from the mass casual fans that buy tons of cosmetics.
I was able to do some limited moding with BF4 like making the aircraft faster, make tank round velocity faster and so on it and it was really really cool. I was able to tweak ARM missiles so that they provide the target with a lock on warning (all of which took place private servers - no cheating whatsoever). Honestly, I had more fun doing that stuff then most of the gameplay. Even if we can't have comprehensive tools I wish we could have a bare bones sandbox where we could edit files and tweak some basic stuff.
Alas, I believe the best we can hope for is that community servers in BF 2042 provide a lot of options for players to tweak on their server.
I can respect that answer, I still think they could find a way to profit from it. But they just don't have the foresight to do so. They could literally do what Oculus or Steam does.. allow players to make game or in this case a Mod then put it on the Origin store for sale or something. Anyways your answer made sense, a lot of the other responses were just from kids whom think mods would ruin the game or something. They have no idea how much content and joy mods brought to the BF community.
