With the map disabled it is a night-and-day experience. Enemies simply walk and run past me like I’m not there, and flanks are spectacular and viciously rewarding.
Why not give it a go to get you accustomed to the mechanics of the game? You’ll survive far longer than in normal modes giving you the time to try out settings too and what works best for you. (I’m a fiddler for settings myself—they make a huge difference: from bottom to top of the table by getting them right all else being the same.)

@TheseusJasonI may have to try that. It's not like I can die perceptively faster than I already am. 🙂
BTW @skilld, thank you, I will snag Aimlabs. Looks like it might help.
I did some more grinding tonight, ran a few bot Breakthrough matches to get some unlocks, a couple SMGs and attachments mainly. Also the AKS-74U. (I know, I know, it's supposed to be garbage, but look at it. LOOK AT IT. IT'S AN OLD-SCHOOL KRINKOV WITH WOODEN FURNITURE.) Once I went back to the land of Real Players, Breakthrough turned into the usual grind. Somehow I always end up on the attack side in a Breakthrough with players, and that doesn't go well. At all. Just feels like even when I stay frosty and try moving cover to cover, I get orbital-struck by some guy who's parked about 100m away and is covering all the lanes. Smoke isn't helping as much as I'd expected, thermal sights probably. It probably isn't helping that I'm playing Sundance trying to get that 20-grenade-kill thing in the Battle Pass since her special grenade counts double. But I'm still out here grinding. 🙂 And I'll try some hardcore, I've done a little bit in BF4 and I get exactly what you mean.- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend
@AOD_moose004If you’re setting up rounds in portal, you can get it to be ranked for up to T3 and complete weeklies. XP counts towards battlepass too. If you’re playing solo, stop. They dropped to 20hz servers and it’s miserable.
Go here and set yourself up: https://portal.battlefield.com/. When you’re setting up, choose an official mode, the whatever maps you want. Then jump forward changing nothing until the AI page. Pick PVP, but change nothing else. Then name it and save it and you’re good to play. Then go to Portal in game and play the game. Consider throwing a password on it if you want some privacy to practice flying etc.
I realize it’s not the same as playing against real people, after 2 years I don’t care anymore lol! I play with crossplay off. There’s not that many people doing that, but there’s some and we have fun and it’s far less sweaty. Play an official mode with crossplay off and it populates with bots (not all modes do) and it’s normal scoring. The connection is way better too. That’s my 2 cents anyway.

@ATFGunrI tried doing what you said with Portal, it populated with bots OK but it said "restricted XP" and didn't count anything toward weeklies, in fact I don't think it even counted anything toward unlocking a weapon (the ACW-R requires 100 M5A3 kills, I started and ended with 31 despite getting about 80 kills with it in that bot match). Oh well. It'll work great for aim practice and settings tweaks so thanks!
- Alethes2 years agoSeasoned Ace@AOD_moose004 as you’ve done it on BF4 then there will be no surprises to you, even better! It’s wonderland playing without a map and killcam.
(I’d go the extra mile and add friendly-fire by default on all game modes, but that’s just me.)
