Use Google Translate or Chrome for the full article, but here's an excerpt:
"The development of 2042 thus began with an already far less experienced team, whereby they got the assignment to create a Battle Royale game. But before that could happen, the engine needed to be updated. Battlefield 5 ran on a Frostbite engine from 2016, so time to quickly update that. That "quickly" became 18 months. Yes, 1 1/2 years' time of the development was spent on updating the engine that Dice developed itself. The reason? All of the experienced people had left."
and this one:
"The American publisher was dead set on creating a battle royale game, partly because of the success of Apex Legends. Pitches from veterans at DICE would be refused in favor of a dedicated battle royale game.
In the end the publisher went overboard, possibly because of the Specialists that could create an extra revenue stream. The company approved the concept in August 2020 for the relatively traditional Battlefield. This means that the game was only in development for 15 months, noticably shorter that an average blockbuster game."

So the original devs are all long gone and the ones that are left are getting pushed around by EA. Also in the articles it says that the devs were being asked to develop software for consoles which they didn't have, and using their home PCs which may have not been up to the task of developing games like this anyway. So it doesn't sound like their egos have anything to do with it. It sounds more like EA set them up for failure.
DICE seems to have lost all autonomy in terms of deciding the direction the game should go in. It all seems to be driven from a very high level at EA based purely on marketing and following trends. And like others have mentioned, it seems to have driven a lot of the talented people away.
You can't completely stifle the creativity of the people who actually know how to make games and expect it to end well.
- lookcr4 years agoSeasoned Ace@FatherDed Yes, I see it as a huge mistake for the community to blame the developers, we even had death threats, this only makes the situation worse, the guy can no longer work because EA kills any idea, forces the team to release the game in the state it launched and still is threatened by "Fans"

I think it's just a tiny minority of people. Probably kids with no sense of proportion so I think you have to take them with a pinch of salt and kinda just accept that unfortunately there are people like that about. If it was an adult posting stuff like that, they'd need to have a word with themselves.
Personally, I've been very critical of BF2042 up to now (I'm actually starting to see a lot of good in it now that patches have resolved some of the issues) but I try to keep it in proportion and not direct it at specific people when I have no knowledge of what went on during the development of the game and who is to blame for various things.
I remember reading the user reviews on Metacritic for BFV when it came out. Some of the comments were shocking. Especially ones to do with the whole "women in a WWII game" storm in a tea cup. Some people have too little to worry about it seems.
- lookcr4 years agoSeasoned Ace@FatherDed Me too, until today I didn't understand this criticism of having women in the BFV, sorry for the swearing but * it's a game, and yes we had women in the second war
There's a lot I didn't like about the game, but these points should never be used to threaten the devs.
Some things I just don't agree with everyone because to me they sound like empty reviews, the game is bad, but getting better with each patch, it's unacceptable to have released the way it did, I still have a little faith because it has potential, one of points I want to see is the new map, how it will be done since now we have the basis of being really oriented towards the classic and not a supposed BR
