New Dev team ego is killing the game.

As a PC gamer since C&C Red Alert, Tribes 1, and BF1942 are my thoughts on this.

2042 had an almost all new dev team and leadership from previous versions result in a whole team of people who are here to make it better.   In doing so I feel as if they let their Egos of being better developers get in the way of accepting and even embracing the things that make the BF series so amazing.  It's a common new (weak) leadership mistake to make changes for the sake of change and to not fully understand the room and what made an old proven system work.

What I think happened is in their desire to be "THE GREATEST DEVELOPERS EVER" they overlooked the obvious core requirements that should have been honored to carry the series forward.  Now we're here with a game that has good bones but has some really bad implementation decisions in place.

I know a ton of people who just want to play some good portal versions of 64 player conquest on the old maps (which are almost all far superior) and still receive XP etc.   In order to even play any "sanctioned" full XP servers on portal you have to trick the game to let you play which is why no-one is doing that.  You need to select Gun Master mode then quickly cancel the match making then you can see other good modes like "Conquest of Ages" which is really good but a ghost town due to it being half hidden.  Even the description of that is screwed up.  It says "experience conquest on every map 1942, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3" then you rotate 3 maps over and over.

Why not set up a bunch of "Sanctioned" full XP servers that are easy to find and filter through browser for things like:

64 player Bad Company 2 Conquest

64 player Battlefield 3

64 player Battlefield 1942

64 player Battlefield 1942 Modern Warfare mod

etc.

Just put it out there and let the players choose what they want and you will have so much more success.  We're not all stupid rocks that need to be corralled into what you want us to play to validate your desires.

The game has taken soo much flack over lack of scoreboard, VOIP, server text chat in game, etc. unnecessarily.  Check the Ego at the door and do what the community is screaming for.

@FatherDed Yes, I see it as a huge mistake for the community to blame the developers, we even had death threats, this only makes the situation worse, the guy can no longer work because EA kills any idea, forces the team to release the game in the state it launched and still is threatened by "Fans"

@ArchAngeL-PCX And look at it today. They listened to the community and they've fixed all that and they even added new classes, hm, was it last year? And the game still has enough population to get games fairly fast in multiplayer.
The problem with game development is that they don't get active input from the community. They go with personal experiences and think it's a great idea when it's not. That's also the beauty of early access games but there are bad apples even in that area obviously and they still make mediocre games despite input - some even trying to abuse the system.
What I'm trying to say is that game development isn't that easy. They have their ideas plus their testing equipment and do a generalizing performance optimization after that and then they got BF2042.
I do like BF2042 but it need tweaks in term of balancing (pretty much actually) and the performance is under all critique. People say performance is fine but I think those people are not high-end PC players realizing their 3090 isn't performing to its fullest and still land on 80-120 FPS _despite_ quality options.
  • I can also mention I knew a couple of guys at DICE (Stockholm) and they've resigned and started up their own company. I think that says enough what kind of working environment they've had to put up with.

So I also get the notorious EA deadline. That also puts some sticks into the wheel o_O

Yep @lookcr it's really disappointing to see. I think it's just a tiny minority of people. Probably kids with no sense of proportion so I think you have to take them with a pinch of salt and kinda just accept that unfortunately there are people like that about. If it was an adult posting stuff like that, they'd need to have a word with themselves.

Personally, I've been very critical of BF2042 up to now (I'm actually starting to see a lot of good in it now that patches have resolved some of the issues) but I try to keep it in proportion and not direct it at specific people when I have no knowledge of what went on during the development of the game and who is to blame for various things.

I remember reading the user reviews on Metacritic for BFV when it came out. Some of the comments were shocking. Especially ones to do with the whole "women in a WWII game" storm in a tea cup. Some people have too little to worry about it seems.

@FatherDed Me too, until today I didn't understand this criticism of having women in the BFV, sorry for the swearing but * it's a game, and yes we had women in the second war

There's a lot I didn't like about the game, but these points should never be used to threaten the devs.

Some things I just don't agree with everyone because to me they sound like empty reviews, the game is bad, but getting better with each patch, it's unacceptable to have released the way it did, I still have a little faith because it has potential, one of points I want to see is the new map, how it will be done since now we have the basis of being really oriented towards the classic and not a supposed BR

BFV, a year into its release, was a great game. The movement and gunplay were absolutely spot on. If they could replicate that in BF2042 along with improving the performance and balance, it would go a long way to turning the game around. Beyond that, some maps with better flow, more cover and it would potentially be a great game. A lot of ifs there though!

@FatherDed Some ideas from BFV I liked, I can't deny it.

Let's see what awaits us for 2042, it has potential only depends on the freedom that DICE will have, maybe with Zampella it will improve
