OP You ask why - Respawn made Apex Legends a hero shooter out of the Titanfall husk, made it f2p and EA made $3.4 billion selling skins. Thats why EA directed DICE to try and replicate Apex's success in 2042 with an Apex/COD/Warzone hybrid. Didn't work out.If EA wanted this scheme to succeed they shouldn't have called it "Battlefield" per se and should have launched this game as an entirely new franchise, as a spin-off

I think it would've been better received that way. Instead we got deceived. All the new games have characters lately, just look at xDefiant. Little kids like the colors and skins.

@Lady_OneIf that's the game they're referring to, I don't get the connection what so ever...Games take years to develop, so this game has probably been in development at least since the release of 2042, but more likely before it was even in Beta. Hero shooters had an uptick in popularity for a while, but they died back down. It's always going to be a thing going forward however. I personally enjoy quite a few of them. I get if you don't, but what do they have to do with Battlefield?!BF2042 might have some very light inspiration from the Hero Shooter genre, but it's always had classes. I absolutely despise Mil-Sim games, but have always loved the BF games. It never felt like they were tying to be at all realistic. My impression was that it was a military themed sandbox that was closer to an Arena shooter then it was to a Simulator of any sort.The Specialist didn't work in BF2042 because it threw off balancing and added annoying to deal with mechanics. It wasn't the worst idea, but BF2042 has a lot of nuanced issues. It's really close to being a great game, but all the little things add up to something that I can't stomach anymore.I don't think anyone has any idea what the next BF is going to be like. No matter what, don't pre-order it!

@cso7777 I iniatially had hopes for Delta Force until I saw the operators and some of their gadgets that reminded me of a certain other game.🤔As it will be free to play, I will give it a try but I remain sceptic

@b0gart-555 I'd hope not because I don't see that game in as much of a negative light, at least not now. I wish Battlefield had more competition. World War 3 flopped, IMO Battlebit isn't that great. I hope Delta Force puts some pressure on EA to make a better game.

@Lady_OneI personally mostly play Battlebit, it is not BF and is far from perfect, but it is way more fun than 2042. Battlebit also has a lot of fundamental mechanics working better than BF (mouse-response, gunplay, sound etc).

Delta Force is F2P and I doubt that it will differ from most other F2P-games (monetization/skins more than "real" content). The game is operator-based and the specialists were one to 2042s biggest issues, I'm not sure it will be a real competitor to BF. But time will tell...

@cso7777 I've played Battlebit, it does some things right that DICE should take clues from (like the inability to shoot or be damaged while in spawn), and it does a lot of things wrong which turn me off, like how spawn beacons work, leaning spam, supports getting 4 frag grenades that can 1shot you, have no indicators and leave no soot/scorch marks, can be resupplied nearly instantly and there is no APS, vehicles being weak, annoying to drive and seemingly nowhere to be found, secondaries being near useless...
I dunno why you think sound is good, Battlebit does not at all compete with 2042's directional footstep audio. Maybe they've improved it, but I doubt it.
