The server browser also adds a base for any kind of turnaround.
Match making is a system not designed around the needs of players, if its the only option. Without the server browser as well, its just a way for EA/Dice to save money on servers.
However, the combination of a server browser with an MM system (quick match) works best for all concerned.
If you want to just get home from work or school and drop in and out of a few rounds, mm is a perfectly good solution. If, when you come home, you want to join up with a few dozen friends to have an organized scrim, the server browser is what you need.
Point is, a healthy battlefield community serves both sets of interests. When the game itself drives organized players away, the casual players have less opportunity to find populated servers. Because organized players don't just clan stack, they also will play as individuals in order to gain xp (and open up tools) or just to learn the maps. They create a base level of play which enables the casual players to find games.
Dice have made an enormous error of judgement when they decided with BFV, and doubled down with 2042, to stop serving organized players.
