I'm talking about self hosted servers on top of official dedicated ones. Has this even been attempted with other games in general? I think this could bring some nice change in BF series with different communities and put control in hand of admins. What can I say that hasn't already been said about offline portion of game? It's mindboggling why I have to be online to play offline matches with bots when I have broken connection or just want to relax from headset-screaming kiddies. Considering the last time we had bots was in BF2 era is all the more reason this should be done right. One more thing I wanted to bring up is inclusion of DRM free version of this game- I know, I know it's wishful thinking and daydreaming but with all things mentioned before I think something can be done about it. IIRC Bad Company 2 had removed SecuRom a year after release so it would be most welcome for something similar to happen again. While 2042 servers will be active for years to come I think it's good to think about future of this franchise and to preserve every title (even older ones) in a playable state. I know this is a bit unconventional post but I needed to get this off my chest.

Though I totally understand what you desire @dragonslayerxxx1 and reasons why, then I wouldn't get my hopes too high up on such any time soon. Mainly because it doesn't fit into the mold of where EA wants to be in the gaming market and their business modeling.In the BF2042 portal you can actually set up totally private servers. Even with password protection, so its either only you as a single person or your friends that you share the password with, who will be able to access that server. So the screaming kiddies shouldn't be a problem, except the ones you might have on the floor around in your own house. :o)So while I understand your desire to be able to play the game entirely offline, then that is not possible by current design of the BF2042. And I doubt it ever will be, as the client/server software architecture obviously rely on heavy processing on the server side for controlling the gameplay for all the clients. So theoretically this could of course also be released to the 'public'. But as said, the EA business model and pricing for that sake, is not built with that in mind. You can actually say that you probably would need an entire separate 'open source project' to create something like this from the ground up. Which actually is closely connected to the last point that you raise. Namely a DMR free version of the game. EA is of course not going to launch a royalty free version of their brand new game, just to see all their millions of $ investment into R&D not coming back in sales revenues first. EA is not a charity organization. Another thing is that its actually quite challenging to keep old IT tech functioning for many years later. As aka 5.25" disk drives are not that easy to find anymore these days, likewise with graphic drivers used like 10 years ago, active x plugins, many of the different underlying supporting DLL libraries are no longer kept up to date, etc. None of it are certainly compatible with current versions of Windows/Mac/Linux/Android... So all this makes it cumbersome and most often practical impossible to keep all retro games playable, unless you keep like a time-capsule of all components you need from the époque you want.

I'm glad more people are wanting this. DICE has been implementing so much new things worthy of praise. If they went with this it could set a new golden standard for BF games.

@dragonslayerxxx1 I am 100% absolutely, positively, without question, completely against ANY government involvement in regulating video games--especially when gamers plead for government to get involved to give them something that the company in question can't, or doesn't, want to give for whatever reason. Gamers do not own those companies, or games, and they aren't owed anything from them. Just because a company makes a game doesn't mean gamers somehow get to run to government and tell them "Make that company give me what I want!" That is such entitled, whiny, selfish, economically-illiterate BS!

@ChugKendall Sorry, as I read more about it I realized situation I mentioned doesn't have to do anything with EULA but something else. Never mind. But yes, cheating has always been a problem in PC gaming. I hope so too because last time I played BF1 nothing has been done about it. Admin control is at least a step in a good direction.

But let me warn you: You keep mentioning laws and regulations, and I am 100% against all of them, without question or compromise. If your point has anything to do with them (laws and regulations), we aren't going to agree.

@ChugKendall Hehe, we don't have to agree. Everyone have their own opinion. What I was saying-there are regulations to every piece of software that prevents their misusage. You wouldn't want somebody to steal your online account, right? Same thing. But I'd rather talk about 2042 than stuff like this.

@dragonslayerxxx1 Ah, when speaking of regulations, I think you mean "security measures." If that's the case, yes, they try to include measures to combat cheating and hacking--and I hope they do a great job of it, with the new BF. On that we can absolutely agree, my friend.

I want government in as much as possible , this is a kids game. We would have never baught bf4 if it had clans it had become so bad ..

@ChugKendall neither government, nor corporate entities, acting as monopolies or cartels have any right to censorship mature people by what they call deplatforming. (there can be a legitimate thing here and there, but how is it not going to be misused?) If they get govt money then they are not quite private but State Enterprises. Some of the largest industries in my country were built up from the state money. To be honest I dont know what was not state enterprise :D So we as the People were rich, individually not much, until privatization came in and pretty much destroyed everything.in 90s. Especially after the NATO coup in 1998, looting on steroids, plus neocolonialism. We are officially sovereign and all the lovely officially democratic stuff, reigned from Brussels/Washington/Berlin/Paris.

I would trust exactly 0% with censorship any american, or western European private or state agency. This comes from what they call 'Eastern Europe'.
