There will be dedicated servers, its not like you will be playing on Per to per system for Battlefield 2042 @uklancs 🙂

The BF2042 Portal section allows you and your clan to define all the servers and gameplay parameter as you want them to be. You can make these servers public or private (password entry only). So with these options offered by EA in this next BF2042, then I think you get all you need to be happy.

@CyberDymeExcept 365/24/7 servers.
Its a lot better than BFV and it can maybe work, but its still not as good as it used to be. And there will be a lot of manual work to keep them running and cheater free. I presume they are using the same server system they used for Battlefield 5 instead of proper dedicated servers.

Lot of people get the idea of dedicated = being able to rent your own server.
Portal is the closest you will get, if the server becomes empty the server vanishes.

From what they have shared of bits and pieces on it, it hints towards that the Portal server that you may be setting up (you, @SirBobdk , our server guru master! 🙂 then you can decide how/if you want to share that with anybody else. So lets say you decide to share it with 'everybody'. That means that everybody can see it and join it for the gaming. From what I understand, all those 'everybodys' can then also decide to save it (like in 'favorites'). Meaning, all those 'everybody's can also then start it all on their own, if next time they get online and its not still running with other players on. If that is how its going to become, and I do not see why EA tech team would not follow that route, well then you have servers being run 24/7/365 as we also had it in 'the old days'.
But just like in the old days, it takes that you keep the server alive and tempting more players to come on it to favour it etc for many months, before you start to have a more stable presence online for a server to become truly 24/7/365. And exactly as in 'the old days', it will take a large group of solid and committed admins to keep it cheater free. But I am very confident that we have many good gamer friends out there who is up for that task, if EA otherwise provide us with the required tools to make it reality!

Honestly, I do not see the big problem with this. Except of course, it takes a bit more dedication by the admin team behind it to bring it up to a higher level of player population that frequently plays on it. But that has always been the case. The positive thing is that our server browsers will not be endless spammed of totally empty and crappy server designs that whoever has made and just left behind in the mess. Honestly, we should all embrace that only populated servers are kept visible.
The server creator and the players that have saved the specs, can then all just start it again whenever they want.
That is even better versus what we have today with BF4 servers!
- @PeppaPigKilla Will the servers have the Favorites option or once you'll have to look for it every time you play to see if it's active?
- VANUCCI-PPK5 years agoSeasoned Vanguard@-Antares65z- Not sure, some people have said no and others said yes, i guess this is something we will have to wait for to find out
- VANUCCI-PPK5 years agoSeasoned Vanguard@CyberDyme nah, i respectfully disagree
