@StormtrooperDan wrote:I agree it is more fair, but I much preferred switching both map and teams that was introduced in BF5. The last thing I want after a long slog on some map (any of the long Pacific maps in BF5), was to play the same map again.
Switching to a new map is a breath of fresh air and more enjoyable to the overall play session.
I'm annoyed so much design knowledge is lost to DICE with every release, where they'll fix things in past only to reintroduce the same problem in a new release.
That was the only time I enjoyed breakthrough, back in V on the Pacific maps when they first launched and I really liked switching between attack and then defence.
Had some epic long battles on those maps in breakthrough.
I prefer longer to shorter round times though because it allows more time to try different playstyles in the same round and I would prefer more tickets in AOW conquest than we have now.
i'm good with attacking and defending on the same map as long as we don't keep getting the same 2 or 3 maps when playing vanilla AOW. if we rotate through all the maps it's fine and i like it

This is only for Breakthrough and Rush, and does not apply to Conquest. The change isn't about playing the same map twice, but rather to enable you to play as both Attacker, and Defender in a given round which was frequent feedback we've received.

haven't gotten a chance to play (i'm at work), do the maps rotate now or is it possible to go back and forth between the same handful of maps after your attack/defend cycle ends?

You switch sides before rotating to the next map or server.

I understand the intention behind the decision, but the effect is forcing everyone who plays Breakthrough / Rush to play the same map twice in a row. This is something that many players actively try to avoid in regular matchmaking, as in backing out of the lobby if the same map comes up again.
What was the reasoning for BF5's breakthrough rotation system of changing maps and switching teams, and how does that design decision still not apply to BF2042?

right, i didn't phrase it well. after you complete your cycle of attack/defend how is the next map determined? is it the standard MM that could potentially put you back on the same map or is there now a rotation so you go to a different map. a problem i have been having in the past is i would only get to play 2 or 3 maps on breakthrough and MM just kept bouncing me around in them. will i for example get to play all the other maps before it puts me back on discarded after i have finished my attack/defend on discarded?

You still have the option to leave and find another server if you don't want to play the other side. We are not taking away that choice for you, but at least making it easier to experience both sides of the round.
- 4 years ago@Straatford87 people were already leaving servers because of getting the same maps before this, because a proper map rotation is either broke or non-existent, now you pretty much just doubled having to play the same maps.

Can you clarify if in AOW whether players stay connected to the same server between matches? That's something very ambiguous to the player base. I've read posts that mention if you don't hit Esc or Continue buttons at the end of match and let the game auto transition to the next round, you stay connected to the same server. Is that true?
A common complaint amongst my friends is getting the same map multiple times in a row due to random matchmaking in AOW. And I've told them to do the "auto transition" trick. The supposed benefit of staying connected to the same server is to never get the same map twice in a row, as the server rotates the maps.
If there is no such feature that keeps players connected to the same server, then I'm complaining under false assumptions. I should just exit after every AOW match.
